Paid almost $10 for a proof 1961 Franklin on EBay the other night . . .

and when it arrived this afternoon I was more than a little disappointed to see that is was not a cameo--as it had been advertised to be in the EBay listing.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!!!

Then I got out my loupe and noticed (even through the original mint cellophane) that it's a nice, clear, DDR.

Are those things worth anything?

There are many DDR's for these. Some have no premium, some have a small premium, and one is worth the big bucks. There are also many machined doubled coins.

the DDR that's worth a nice premium is easily identified at E-Pluribus-Unum. do you have a picture??

No, I have no image, and not a good enough lens to shoot that tight a shot through the mint plastic. There is clear doubling of most letters in the motto, and also very clear doubling in "DOLLAR."

If anyone can post or refer me to a good photo of the high value '61 DDR, please do. I'd love to compare what I found to the real deal.

Wait, let me get this straight. You bought a coin on ebay that was advertised as "cameo" and when the coin
showed up, it was not.
I feel your pain, but I've gotten into the habit of treating most ebay sellers of raw coins as liars. I may miss
a good deal here and there, but at least I haven't been stiffed.

I'd say the majority are in fact not liars.

You should always be leary of buying proof coins still in the celophane as it is very very hard to distinguish if a coin is cameo or not thru the wrapper. these should be priced as not cameo and then if it turns out to be, lucky you!
