Should eBay insert AUTOMATIC positive feedback?...poll

I think it would be good. I ...will not... beg for feedback from dolts who ignore it as a responsibility of the buyer.
And the positives all look alike anyhow.

Great transaction and quick shipping... A++++++

What I was thinking is that for the first 30 days (give LOTS of time for ninnies) that their positive would be automatically inserted to let others see that you are doing bizz in a satisfactory manner.

It would NOT take the place of a hand done one earlier than the 30 days.

Like maybe: "Positive feedback for seller on transaction with this buyer."

What think?

No, it opens the door to fraudsters.
They could sell a lot of stuff fast and not ship anything but it would look like they got good FBs on those items and trick someone into buying from them even though they had no good FBs at all.

    No way.
  • No, it would create more negative feedbacks due to the silent fustrated ones that just don't leave any at all. image

I wish I could set automatic positive feedback as default unless I specify otherwise. --jerry

I have seen some sellers that have automatic feedback reciprocaters. Immediately when you leave
the positive you can look and a canned response has been left for you.

Who ever said anyone has to leave feedback! This argument is getting old, if a buyer want's feedback I have no problem leaving it for them but no where on ebay does it say I have to! There are buyers and sellers that are better off that I did not leave them feedback.

    Sure.
And ebay should automatically bid on items for me as well. Maybe ebay could automatically pay for items too.
Why stop there? Ebay should automatically make all decisions for me image

To make it more fair, what if it was random?

    33% positive
    33% negative
    34% neutral

I think people should have to actively leave feedback. There's no "responsibility" to leave feedback at all. If the transaction went smoothly, it's in a buyer's best interest to leave good feedback and get it in return.

I wonder why these "dolts" aren't leaving you any?

If feedback becomes mechanical, that defeats the whole purpose.

Bad idea. Automatic feedback is not feedback at all. It is just a canned response, no different from the "valued customer" fluff you see in advertisements. I'm a valued customer, huh? Well, prove it, by dealing with me individually, not giving me the standard boilerplate form letter sort of response.

OK, maybe if "neutral" really meant "neutral" instead of having a negative connotation as it does in actual practice on eBay, some automatic function could step in after a certain period of time and could leave default neutrals for unanswered transactions (TRUE neutrals, that is, not "bad" neutrals). But ONLY if the real person hadn't already stepped in to give a negative or positive. I think this sorta thing is what you were getting at, eh?

But I think that too would be a lousy idea in the real world.

  • Points taken. No it is.

    Didn't think of the fraudsters.

Edited to add that it would really have NO effect on fraudsters who use shills for their feedback anyhow.
I would still want to see the buyer and item. If you can't really READ feedback, then I could see how it would lead to false conclusions.

But when I ship same day of payment and never get a return or a question and still no feedback, it pisses me off.

  • No way.....there are many pieces to a transaction so it takes the buyer and seller to know exctly when a deal has been completed or not.

I really enjoy interacting with customers and on my more expensive coins I often get to interact with them. But much more often the customer hits BIN, sends instant payment, I print out a shipping label with paypal shipping and I'm lucky to even note where I'm shipping the coin. "Fast payment, valued customer, please come back" is about all I can say. I hope it communicates that I sincerely appreciate their business and I do show it when I get a chance such as correcting a shipping error, responding to questions, or combining shipping to reduce shipping charges. --Jerry

For example an account gets hijacked and the fraudster starts selling a dozen $20 double eagles each day with stolen pics for a month without shipping anything. Buyers look at the automatic feedback and think everything's fine there's good FBs from the last month on similar coins.

Without the automatic FBs they might see an account not used in years or see that the seller only sold 1 cent ebooks to build a good FB number and never sold high dollar items.

I would go for an automatic neutral for the seller. This would point out sellers who establish good records, and then use that record to sell crap, which they don't leave feedback for unless/until the buyers leave them positive feedback first.

  • How about if they just generated negatives unless otherwise instructed?

If they do this wonderful idea, I would like to see armed officers enforcing it.

This idea is just about the best I have ever had.

No, how insincere. Automatic feedback throughout the system would significantly dilute the meaning of feedback, which is designed to promote confidence in one another.

Why not express appreciation for people when they do as they should?

I want to trade my feedback in for some S&H Green Stamps or some Air Miles or something.
