Annandale Coin Show

just wondering if any one is going. If I can get there, it will be my first coin show. Mostly going to get supplies and just see what is out there.

I will not be there, but several dealers have told me that the Annandale shows are very good local coin shows.

Thanks for posting this show. I'm one of the promoters and appreciate that this twice-a-year show now completing it's second year of operation is getting recognized here without me having to post it.

The 88-table Annandale show is predominately US Coins and Currency but will have almost two dozen dealers in ancients and world coin and currency. There are also dealers in errors and medals. Tidewater will have a full selection of coin books and supplies. About half of the Annandale dealers do not attend the other northern Virginia show (Vienna). So, if you're a Vienna regular, consider coming to Annandale as well and see a mostly different group of dealers and inventory. In addition to a number of local and regional dealers, the show includes almost a dozen national show circuit dealers (All American, Angel Dees, Black Mountain, Butternut, Coleman Foster, John Gulde, Wayne Herndon, AE Johnbrier, LSCOA, and Royalty Coins). We're particulary happy to have added Coleman Foster and Royalty Coins in from Texas for this show. Larry Briggs/SEGS and ROMA Coins typically also attend but had a conflict this time with another show.

It is the last show in the area before the holidays and there will be some holiday gift shopping options.

Here is the list of attending dealers for the show:

My wife went to Annandale High (go Atoms or whatever they are).

Darn, I thought we were going to be down there that weekend, but now I am not. Looks like a nice show.
  • Wayne,

It's good to know that you are one of the promoters of such a wonderful show. There are several "old friends" on your list of dealers. Look forward to doing some shopping this weekend. I encourage others to come, as well.

I plan on being there Sat afternoon. Much better venue than Vienna if for no other reason than you can fit through the isles, sit at a dealer table w/o getting knocked into, and find parking easily.

I agree. The Vienna show stinks. Parking stinks. There is no way you can sit down at a table and not block 75% of the aisle. That stinks too.
The Annandale show at NOVA is much better - plenty of parking, plenty of space to sit down at a table, or talk with someone in the middle of the aisle.

  • Oh, come now. The Vienna show is just ....different than the NOVA show. I like both for different reasons. I've scored nice coins at both and look forward to each of them.

It's like apples and oranges. I know what to expect at Vienna, and I don't mind. See you Saturday!

  • My wife and I flew up from Florida to do the show. We had a wonderful day seeing all of our old friends and customers. Paul Singleton, Wayne amd his lovely wife put on a wonderful show. Many dealers we there and the bourse was hopping. We had sales that were more than double what we expected and I am very happy not only with the customer turnout but also the show itself. Wayne provided new showcases and lights for all of the fly in dealers and it was a first class operation all the way around. Andy from Angel Dees and his lovely wife Alyne provided a BBQ lunch for all of the dealers and Wayne’s friends and family made sure that we were all fed so that a minute was not missed on the bourse. I must admit that this is now one of my favorite shows and I will be back. Please stop by the show on Sunday as it should be hopping!

I can not agree enough with Bob. There were plenty of dealers there and the traffic was moving. It was a well attended show. Wayne and the rest of the promoters put on a top notch show. Plenty of parking. You could actually sit down at a table and not block 75% of the aisle. There was something there for everyone: U.S. coins, ancient & world coins, and a lot more currency dealers that I expected.

    When is the next show?

  • Should I bother going tomorrow, or will it be like Baltimore and 3/4 of the dealers have left and the rest are packing?
Salute the automobile: The greatest anti-pollution device in human history!
(Just think of city streets clogged with a hundred thousand horses each generating 15 lbs of manure every day...)
  • Wow! Lotta "MD" dealers in that list. And I only know of 2 of them, of 8 I know in the state. Makes me mad the Balto Metro doesn't have a tighter coin community (and if it does - someone let me know! Love ya Frederick, but too far on a school night).
  • The show should be full of dealers tomorow. As for Baltimore there is no comparison and these dealers respect there bread and butter which is the public and not the dealers themselfs. Baltimore just did away with the sunday show date.

We had four dealers leave yesterday so still a very nice bourse today. If you're in the area and didn't make it yesterday, do try and come today.

I was there for a couple of hours this morning Great show. Echo the above comments about the ease of moving around. I walked the floor a bit and spent most of my time talking Buffalo nickels and Pittsburgh sport teams with Andy S. What a great guy. His inventory of Buffs and Lincolns is incredible. Where's the winning lotto ticket when I need it?

Although I'm not an ancient collector, there were some pretty amazing pieces. Lots of history and not just the last two hundred year! You can't help but fantasize that some of those pieces were handed out by Cleopatra as "tips.

I'm going to try to make this a regular event. Great show, Wayne and the other organiers.

All in all a good show for me. I continued to liquidate my early collecting mistakes, and several
folks were kind enough to confirm my fears on one coin, but I was able to unload it back to the
dealer that sold it to me for $100 more than anyone else was going to offer. Andy at Angel Dee’s
let me look at a 1916 DDO buff in VF, which is probably the rarest coin I’ve ever handled. Andy
was also the source of the 34-D buff I posted in another thread. Picked up another buff upgrade
and a $1 buff silver dollar for my type set. The $1 buff unfortunately had what appeared to be
PVC damage from the original mint set, but Wayne Herdon was kind enough to allow me to swap
it for a 2nd set, and that was very nice indeed. The only downside was a WLH that I bought in a
3rd world holder that I thought was accurately priced if over graded, but after looking at it more
closely decided it was at least two points over graded and thus overpriced, and the dealer who
sold it too me took his 10% pound of flesh on the buyback, even though returned it the next day.
