OK, I know, I know I way overpaid because it's not a 66, but it is a 7 (R7 and VAM 7A).

I know I already mentioned this in other threads, but it arrived today and I wanted to post pics.

Looks like an AU55 to me. Congrats on the VAM. Is it a tough one? I've not seen that one before, but it looks pretty cool. How much was she?

I agree about whizzing... something has been done to that coins surface. The area around the raised devices looks really different than the rest of the surfaces... could be whizzing, or cleaning, polishing, etc. I'm thinking bodybag at the big TPG's.

I agree that something has been done, I think cleaned and not whizzed, but I am still happy with the purchase. I do know that only 1 coin of this VAM(7A) has been graded at ANACS and the other 2 companies do not grade this one to my knowledge.

Awesome. Might be AU and even might have a problem somewhere, but it is also an extremely rare variety. I doubt you overpaid for it. Show of hands...which of us VAMmers have one of these already? Not me....and I have really looked for one.

Thanks all, the story behind it.......

Saw it pop up on ebay, didn't know what it was and did some research. Found out it was a VAM 7a and an R7. Not knowing what the value was, I offered the guy $80 to do a buy it now, I saw it had problems and figured I wouldn't be out to much at $80. The seller responds and says, "I'm expecting much more than that, it's a certified MS66". I dropped it and let the auction run, I ended up getting it for $76. Thank you all for not looking at this auction because of the third world slab.

You did quite well. My advice is to hold onto the coin, maybe send it to ANACS for grade and attribution or DANSCO it (but don't forget what you have). It will take a while for this variety to be better known and appreciated. It should be worth much more than you paid now and even more going forward.

Oh and BTW........YOU TOTALLY SUCK!

I feel like the child looking for approval from Dad(Dad being Coxe). I got it and I got a YOU TOTALLY SUCK, my life has been fullfilled, now if anyone would sell one of these I could see how much I suck, lol. To the best of my knowledge and DennisH's there have been no sales of this variety for the past couple years, at least recorded. I plan on keeping it for the long haul, as Coxe suggests, because I doubt I will ever have the opportunity to purchase one again.

As I learn and grow in this part of the hobby, it becomes more and more fun. People that make fun of VAM hunters have no idea what they are missing, but please stay out of them because it leaves more for the rest. I am an extreme novice in VAMs but I have a photographic memory that help a lot. I have been getting lucky quite a bit lately and I like it. I just need to learn to sell a few to support the habbit.

Thanks everyone for your knowledge and insight into this part of the hobby.

Wow!! I've never seen that Vam variety before.

They really should call it the 'shooting star' variety because it sure looks like a comet in the night's sky.

Got one today woohoo.

I just went to lunch and decided to walk across the street while they were fixing my calazone. I have been watching 1888 O's lately and was the first thing I looked at in his case. There it was VAM 7A in XF. Asked price and was told $19.00. Quickly bought it up and told him my lunch should be ready by now.

I havent taken it out of the 2x2 yet sorry about the glare.

So in terms of percentages, what kind of premium does the 7A have over a similar non-VAM?

Wondered the same thing. I'm just very happy with the fact its a R7. I like older coins but I can usually only afford very common when it comes to pre 1900's coins.

Not really sure I want to sell it at the moment. For now it's going to go in my Dansco that I hope to fill when I can afford the CC's and other stoppers for me.

While 99.5% of vams are ho-hum, this has a chance to become a "must-have" hot vam. Maybe we should make it a VAM-of-the-Week on vamworld, which appears on the front page.

I've never seen a 7A trade hands before as a 7A, so I don't have a single transaction record in the VAMview archives. We do list it at $200 in VF in the soon-to-be-published 2008 Edition of our VAM Price Guide.

Well I haven't been at it as long as most people, but I sure know this one seems scarce to me. Sell them all to me at $200, lol.

At least in the fact that this was my first VAM find. I look at the VAM sites and I try to remember what I think is neat etc... but I dont bid on or buy VAM's with any regularity.

Will have to dig up a pic of it but it may go VF if I can strip the beejesus out of it!!!!!!!!

BTW....Congrats on the Hook!!!! It's hard to look at Morgies any other way now......
