Is this what they call a 2 feather?
I don't know much about Buffs but in looking in my album noticed this one looked a little different... Thx.

I've never searched much for them, but I'm sure they're fairly tough to find.
<< <i>Yep, that is a 2-feather. The 1927-S 2-feathers are one of the most common dates, for this variety. >>

You can say that again! You can say that again!

Richard,
That's a tough one to determine for certain. But it could be the 2.5 feather variety similar to the 1927-S in the image below.
I have a 1919, anyone know where to find values on the 2-feathers?

Check the book "Buffalo Nickels - The Abraded Die Varieties" by Ron Pope. I've found the values in it to be good estimates of retail value.

<< <i>Does a "2 feather" just mean that the third feather behind the bottom of the main feather is faint or absent? >>
Yes.
<< <i>cherry pickers guide has some 2 feather values, if you want to believe them. >>
Cherrypickers for the nickels is now 7 years old. Most of the rarity ratings, and the values, aren't accurate for 2 feathers.
<< <i>I have cherrypicked about 10 or 12 over the last year... seems like they are much more common on the S mints and all the ones I have found have been pre 1930 >>
There are appx. 33 dates known with 2 feathers, about 11 are common, about 11 are medium difficulty, and the other 11 are rare and expensive (if you know where to go with them). All of this info is in Ron's book.
I started collecting these about 3 years ago, they are really, really addictive. I have 24 of the 33 in my personal collection, and I buy and sell these regularly on my site. If you have any to sell, PM me.

To be accurate, a "2 feather" Buffanlo nickel has the inner most feather completely absent though I can't think of a few that I would argue otherwise. Those with faint inner most feathers generally qualify as "2 and 1/2 feathers".
Here's a nice 2-feather that graded MS66.
