I'm having a good week.
I bought this old English token at the Charlotte Show this spring, for about three dollars. (In a hotel room swap, during the informal Darksiders' Gathering). Bought it from Aethelred. Spinaker2000 and MrPaseo and Mongoose and rhound1977 were all there.
It was one of six pieces, and possibly the least popular of the six at auction this week. It languished on eBay all week. Finally, it moved a little bit in the last day, and it ended up at $7.05 as the last minute began.
Then the bid amount changed oh-so-slightly in the last few seconds, as two British snipers shot it out amongst each other.
The British are coming! The British are coming! They were active on all six of my tokens, but this one was a shocker.
I thought, "Surely this an error," but there were TWO bidders. Must be a rare piece. Gadzooks.
Somebody is gonna get some damn nice freebie bonuses.

BTW, Litesiders, if you sell foreign coins, make sure you ship worldwide. Just in this round of auctions, I have had bidders from the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Monaco(!), Portugal, and those are just the ones I remember. Many times a foreign coin will "go home". It is worth the extra hassle of shipping (customs forms, etc), because a coin you couldn't give away here in the USA will often go for multiples of catalog value to bidders from its home country.
But this blows my mind.

Very misunderstood breed to which everything is a Game ... everything! This is why it is Paramount they be taught and obtained as early in their lives as possible.
25 years experience and not one of my dogs has ever bitten a human being. Custer, the one in the middle, was my First. Owning this magnificent creature taught what was then a young, care-free man more about responsibility than everything prior all rolled into one. He loved little kids and would let them ride on his back. As for other animals though ... well, that's an entirely different story.
I'd love to share some of the great memories and utterly fantastic things Custer and Grumpy did during their lives. Some other place - some other time, I'm sure!
Due to his genetic makeup he was never allowed to run free unless in the fenced in yard.
Great luck on your coin there lordmarcovan!
Congrats!

<< <i>Capone is a nice Name and he's a beautiful specimen. Talk to him all the time, just as you would a person. Very intelligent breed but must be taught where the line is and to mind!

Are you going to ask the winning bidder what he saw?

Whoops, sorry about that, Tony. I thought I saw you in there. Much appreciate the bids.

It's interesting how two bidders thought alike in value while one was even higher but by how much more.

<< <i>Congratulations, Robertson! The way you do your auctions facilitates this type of bidding: accurate title of item, good & large pictures, good description, high feedback rating, fair shipping prices. Well done! >>
I would buy all day with great pictures like that! Nothing hidden! Straight from the hip seller! Congrats!

<< <i>Have you ever had a problem with missing coins shipped out of the country. >>
Only once or twice out of hundreds of transactions, and they were low-dollar items. One that shipped to Hong Kong took forever and both the buyer and I had given it up as lost when it finally appeared in his mailbox. I think I had a similar situation to Brazil, once, too.
Come to think of it, I cannot recall any that went missing forever. Just some that took a very long time. One arrived damaged with part of the shipment missing, but the damage happened here in the USA, because I got notification from some center in New Jersey.
Edit to add: usually the items I ship abroad are worth less than $50 each, and I ship them uninsured. I don't know how insuring this one to England will go- we'll see.

Thanks for sharing your successes with us. It's been fun, and instructive. I'm celebrating with you, despite my envy!
This coin has a rate of return that may exceed Microsoft, et al!
On top of it, you had fun while you owned it.
You deserved a nice win!
<< <i>No, I'd rather have an ancient Roman gold tremissis for my collection. This gets me closer. >>
(MUCH closer, as it happens.)
<< <i>holy smokes, you stepped in golden doodie with those snipers >>
Somethin' like that! I also stepped into the aforementioned golden tremissis!
What can I say, the unexpected PayPal windfall was burnin' a hole in my pocket.
(I have only one BST creditor left, and he wants a little over $100 via money order, so I should have no trouble paying him off).
I have had my eye on this one for some time and pulled the trigger on it, over on VCoins. I only hope Pegasi still has it. (Sometimes these dealers sell the coins at shows and forget to take 'em off VCoins for a few days).
Look, Oreville: Zeno has company now!

How's that for a little alchemy? I just turned a $3 copper piece into a $400 gold one, just like that!
Of course vast amounts of sheer, dumb luck were involved.

Congrats again on the auction. It's like you're passing GO on Monopoly and collecting that big ole, sometimes unexpected, paycheck.

And perhaps the help some eBidiots.
Which sorta helps make up for the time when I was the BUG, and Cladiator was the windshield.
Just as Cladiator was the gentleman and "threw me a bone" after that deal, I intend to do the same for Michael ("Aethelred"), who's one of my oldest friends (from long before computer days).
