Okay, maybe I am wrong, NGC only kind of sucks!

Here is your chance to show why NGC should even be considered a respectable grading company. When it comes to the modern coins it's a given that NGC graded coins are at least one grade above reality. I'm sure the consensus here will be exactly in line with this with a couple NGC [fine fellows]posting [interesting] [stuff] as to why NGC should be considered anything but [an interesting] "classic" grading shop. Never mind their [interesting] holders. What [fine fellow] came up with that [interesting] design? Geez, I wonder how many collectors are [interesting] enough to want their coins in [an interesting] NGC [stuff] holder.
Sound off if you are in disagreement, I love to hear [interesting fellows] on the hill.
Edited to change the title and "brighten" up my dialogue based on the new kinder and gentler Griv.

There are very knowledgable researchers and graders at both NGC and PCGS. Most of them from both companies could teach me so much stuff it would make my head spin.

<< <i>I have several coins in PCGS holders that upgraded from their original [graded within 6 years] NGC holders. Tell me, how can all you say about NGC be true if PCGS graded the coins even higher than they did?
Since grading is only an opinion, I suspect many people could show similar examples of NGC grading tougher than PCGS...and many people could show examples of PCGS grading tougher than NGC. On any given day, it could go either way. Both companies have competent and consistent graders and both companies continue to be recognized as the top tier with other companies bringing up the rear. It's been this way for a long time.
But recently it seems that PCGS has gained more market acceptance for grading accuracy and consistency. Why do you think that is?
Bravo to PCGS for finding the higher ground. Someone has to be second.

Also, I think gold looks smashing in those white NGC holders.

<< <i>I am on record, here and ATS, for not being a fan of the holder design, but NGC offers excellent customer service and generally does a good job grading. >>
I agree with both of these statements. NGC is fine by me, even if their holders are a little blah. I do prefer PCGS, but NGC deserves to be #2 of "The Big Two" that stand alone in the top tier. And in the top tier, #2 is still respectable. It's not #1, but second place is better than third or fourth or sixth, and the vast, yawning abyss below that.
I respect both of The Big Two, and I don't ever see myself being such a plastic snob that I would only accept coins in the #1 service's holder. (Except in a PCGS Registry situation, of course.)

Artichoke hearts, too? Hm. Maybe. But nah, that'd be overdoing it.

Anyway, I think the point has been made and the market continues to validate what my post alluded to. Get on the train my friends, don't end up a grease spot.
Where is that Kool-Aid icon? Where is (I never thought I'd say this!) Dork Karl?
Look at the coin man! Sorry Griv, but you are comming off as a lover of plastic rather than someone who likes coins...
That's okay, though, Griv. You're allowed to be a Koolaid drinker, here. After all, this IS the right place for it. Koolaid central, if you like. (Well, technically, I guess the Registry Forum would be Koolaid central.)
I like Koolaid just fine. But I also like iced tea.

THE ONLY TWO EXCEPTIONS:
1.) American Silver Eagle Coins
NGC is the Market Accepted LEADER for these Graded Coins. PCGS gave that franchise to them.
2.) Encapsulated First Day Coin Covers
NGC is the Market Accepted LEADER for these Graded Coins. These ARE the ONLY "Certified First Strike Coins" from the US Mint, by the US Min.
PCGS gave that franchise to them this year by refusing to come out with a competing product.
To be totally honest, there isn't a coin grading company that understands the modern coin market better and even more impressive is PCGS's strict and consistant grading of the most exciting coin set in my VERY SHORT, hhmmmm, lifespan, the silver/gold/platinum eagles. Only the crusty old fart bags have enough stupidity (remember, they are also in the lime green streatch pants) to say the eagle sets are anything less than the gratest thing to hapen in numismatics in forever.
Are you idiots happy with the clad crap? Do you want our nation's coinage to be completely crap?
Even you ignorant classic bigots can appreciate where I am coming from. Look at it as an investment for your grands. I would hate to hear the boo hoos from those that where foolsih enough to wit until gold hits 1000+ pe oz. Laugh but I have be talking this since $364/oz (oh yes!) and silver at $4.90/oz (yes sir) oh and platinum at $600/oz (ouch!!!) and finally palladium at $280/oz (!).
The bottom line my friends is if I had more to invest then I could retire right now so maybe if I keep investing in US S, G & P then maybe one day soon.

That is beyond funny. The ASE NGC market is crap.

What kind of drugs are you on? That is one of the most uneducated statements I have ever heard. NGC does suck and your graded NGC coins will suck but some people are okay with that. One man's trash is another man's, well, in this case, trash, but best of luck with that NGC toliet paper.

I have to agree with COINBOY on this one, the numbers speak for themselves, It does not mean NGC grades better or worse than PCGS, just that PCGS lost the market for them over the past two years, The fact that PCGS waited to announce they would give 70's on the "W" MS strikes weeks after their release this year, the fact that to grade with an "Early Release" label vs. a "First Strike" label is close to half the price unless your doing dealer bulk, and the fact that 70's sell better than 69's no matter which party grades them and with the odd's being that you will get more with NGC that's where they tend to go. The Market share numbers for the last two years are very clear.
I did not include the regular bullion strikes, PCGS has not given a single business strike an MS70 this year, and for 2006 there was only 4, and I'm not sure that is not a mechanical error on those.

Well, not SGS, or NNC, or WCG, and probably others.
I've seen overgraded coins in PCGS and NGC holders.
There is the human element. Do we really want a compter app. to grade our coins? Not me.
I prefer the PCGS holder, for it's strength, look, and market value.
The holder it might be in is only important when served with kool aid...
Whatever flavor a person prefers will determine which holder they prefer...
The marketplace might seem to prefer PCGS holders...
...yet, time and again, I find that true collectors prefer nice coins...
PCGS- I send coins here if I think it will grade well, since coins in their slabs bring the highest prices.
NGC- I usually send to them via NCS- I've had very good results doing this, with a number of coins.
ANACS- I take VAMs and other varieties to them, along with problem coins that I feel should be slabbed. I think their grading is on par with the other two services, and, in some ways, stricter because they will grade problem coins.
"Buying the Coin not the Slab Insert" is the golden rule, as if you don't agree with it... don't whip out your wallet.
In the end it all comes down to "Are You Smarter then a Third Grader"???
