Well, a few days ago, I saw this 1967 SMS on Ebay....not a very good picture, but I could tell the half was at least a little cameo. The set came in today and I can see I was right! However, it appears a little hazy...is there any way to get that off? Acetone? Also, what would you guys grade it?
UPDATE: PCGS GRADED IT MS66 DCAM!!
Thanks!

NCS
Acetone won't do the trick?
<< <i>Ouch. lol Acetone won't do the trick? >>
That appears to be a pretty good find. Why attempt to do what you haven't done before on a good coin?? NCS is a cheap way of having it done professionally.
Oh, and I didn't realize it was all that good of a find....could it possibly be worth more than the $25-50 I think it's worth?
Fire away, boys.

<< <i>Thanks for all the advice guys!...but no one has really told me...If this coin IS worth NCS...how much could it be worth after conservation? >>
You won't really know until it's conserved. There could be hairlines or mirror breaks you can't see because of the haze.

you,ll need pure water, acetone, and or otherwise, thoughtful procedures to do it like a pro.
overall its yucky working with all these toxic chemicals to restore/conserve,,,properly clean your uncircs.
so use caution where noted.
<< <i>also, just dipping in eZest isnt all there is to it if your serious about conserving a good coin.

So, so true. I found out the hard way:
the die-state i,m thinking needs to be new or very new
before the fields become less and less mirror-like.
the pic aint too good to say for sure but it doesnt look dcam from here
Cam, even though Russ said I shouldn't, I think I might send the coin in to NCS...I really think there are some DEEP mirrors hiding under the haze.... And as you said, the pictures aren't very good. In hand the fields look much deeper....
go for it
it may turn out great for you.

You beat me on that one by 22 cents, I can't remember if I tried to snipe it or not...congrats on a nice coin !
The hard part is learning to spot a coin that can be helped.
Some can't and will only look worse.
guess what that means.
it now has a really good chance of developing
some type of toning, maybe a little sooner than it normally would
despite measures to eliminate that as it were, coins in slabs have been known
to turn, quite possibly due to a previous little acid bath
<< <i>Thanks for the good advice.....so if I send it in, it will be "conserved" for $15 and that includes grading by NGC (If it is conserved well enough)?
Oh, and I didn't realize it was all that good of a find....could it possibly be worth more than the $25-50 I think it's worth? >>
Russ told me this would be worth maybe $80 after a bath. I don't know how to do that though.
this is great!!!!!
just when i thought the forum had pretty much agreed in principal that you can't grade from a picture, we are now assessing impaired coins still in Mint packaging, determining what the outcome will be when they are conserved and then assigning a value to them. man-oh-man, what a great way to help the newcomers.
coins with mirrored fields sure are tough to image well.
<< <i>You can say that again....I always end up in the picture....lol >>
I ain't even gonna touch that one.

Actually, Keets, I made no judgment about the grade or the value of his coin. My exact words were:
<< <i><< It's worth a little somethin in 67DC and 67CAM. >>
It won't grade DCAM even after a dip. The fields are too shallow. At 67CAM, it would be worth about $80.
