How cliquish are coin dealers?

  Somewhat cliquish, but if you are invited to dinner by a member of the clique then are "in" for future dinners. Personally I like to hang out by myself. In my many travels coast to coast I have seen the same groups of people hanging out at dinners and what not.

  Politicians are cliquish... Wannabes are cliquish..
  Coin dealers are loners... much like trolls . That's why we all hang out here. We can all relate.

  I am not much of an insider but I know there are different types. A number of west coast guys like to gamble, playing cards, after dinner on show nights. There are loners but a big part of dealer success is networking and contacts. The only way to maintain them is to socialize at these opportunities. I bet there are plenty of cliques. They probably include top collectors as that is yet another veyr valuable networking source. They sure would like to have a shot at some good material before it goes off to the auction houses.

  As a whole coin dealers are very cliquish people. It is amazing to see how many different cliques form on any given bourse floor at a large convention. Just like high school cliques, there is often a heirarchy in place in the different groups.
  
  Unlike many others I will openly communicate with anybody who approaches me although I have preferences with whom I like better than others.

  there are certain dealers that i could care less about and i'm pretty easy going . i like to have fun on the road and there are dealers that have absolutely no personality at all. then they wonder why people won't even look at there coins...........dah.

  good question. There are cliques and thats the way it is.
  
  It is equally interesting how some dealers survive without all that.

  From what I have seen, they are probably as cliquish as coin collectors, each having their own Circle of Trust™.

  Not more cliquish than anyone else......if you have a favorite dealer with whom you have done a substantial amount of business (buy or sell), you will probably be invited sooner or later.....
