I can't see what they're talking about. However, they make this comment in the auction listing: "Front struck (10) times. (2) TRUSTS doubled. (8) dates. Reverse (6-8) strikes." Which brings up the question, how can the front be struck 10 times, and the reverse only 6 to 8 times????? Unless the minting process has changed, I would think the obverse and reverse of a coin would have to be struck the same number of times.

$4.80 for anything above $500. Once you get above $500 there is no downside from a listing fee standpoint to asking $500,000,000. --Jerry

I wonder if you could convince eBay that he's asserting the coin has been graded "SUPER MEGA 16-18" and have them pull the plug. Heck, he's already assigning a value to the coin, and none of the price guides I have list either the grade SM-16 or that value, so I can only assume that there is such a correlation in some other secret, happy-fun-magic-mushroom price guide. Of course, then the seller wouldn't be out the listing fee and would be saved a little embarrassment.

Every week or two, we find some eBay seller who is incredibly optimistic about the value of his coin. Does anyone have specific knowledge about any of these sellers selling such a coin for an incredible price?

  • Even when you enlarge the pic-it doesn't even show any signs of strike doubling. Just one ugly penny.

Now I understand. The "16 - 18 strikes" comment refers to 10 strikes on the front and 6 - 8 strikes on the back.

NONE, I repeat NONE, of his assertions are true,
or even close to being true.

But what's the big deal? I get dozens of emails and
phone calls every day with similar coins and valuations.

My reply is sometimes "I guess you value the coin more than I do"

Why on earth would this guy want anyone to know where he lived? I see an enraged buyer hunting him down after something like this.
  • BroadstruckBroadstruck Posts: 30,497 ✭✭✭✭✭
Coin was sent to the ANACS in Calif. as well as to (2) other certification/grading companies to be certified and graded. All (3) times the coin was returned graded Extra Fine Condition, Error Type Unknown. Owner believes all (3) certification/grading companies could not certify or identify it because they had nothing to compare it to and had never seen any coin like it before and may have not realized what they were looking at.

Oh boy for some Ebay ads you just need to put on knee-high rubber boots... this fellow takes the cake as you need full Scuba gear as the $#!+ is deep!!!

I looked at the obverse and reverse. If it had multiple strikes maybe the seller meant it was struck by several cars before he rescued it.
    I have no clue.

That would be funny if someone bid on it as a joke, and then he would get hit with the fees. Of coures, the NPB would eventually prevail, but funny none-the-less! image

You gotta be kidding me! It sold?! Allright, who bid on it just to (temporarily) hit the seller with those fees?

The guy is shilling it himself. The one "bigger" has 49% Bid activity (%) with this seller. The other is 9%. At least this shows the guy is a scum bag.
