eBay is retro-cancelling completed auctions now!!

ManorcourtmanManorcourtman Posts: 8,160 ✭✭✭✭✭
So I win an auction for a PCI graded coin where the seller listed PCI in the auction title. I win the coin and am happy with the price I paid and await a seller invoice with insurance/shipping costs. Well 3 and half hours after the auction ends I get a email from eBay. They are notifying me that the above auction has been cancelled and that I should consider auction null and void. They proceed to pull the auction and any link to it or the ended auction. What a load of crap!!! I'm pizzed and will follow up and complete the sale with the buyer!! As an adult I am capable of making buying decisions on my own. What a bunch of idiots. image

    Exactly!!

Just follow-up and complete the transaction outside of Ebay. You and the seller avoid any/all Ebay fees.

People running Ebay must really be a bunch of dopes.

It's happened to me a few times but because I ship quickly the coins were already shipped. My happy buyer then contacts me asking why he can't leave positive feedback.

The good news is you get your sale and you get your final value fees back.

They cancelled one the other night before the guy paid. I figured I lost that $1000 sale. He came back the next day, bought the coin again plus a $1500 coin. I guess all's well that ends well.

  • You get your coin and seller will probably get his fees refunded. Worked out pretty good for you guys.

I won a 1956 Franklin PCGS PF68 DCAM for $110 and before I could pay for it, it was cancelled by Ebay. Didn't have a photo of the full reverse of the slab. I didn't make a note of who the seller was, and there is no evidence that the auction even existed in "my ebay" listing of won items.

Did you receive a winning bid notice? They usually have the sellers Email address included with the winning bid notice.

All you have to do is report the item to eBay & they will close the auction....

Happened to me once on an auction I won. I had already paid and still got the coin. Guess the seller must've been happy he didn't have to pay fees. image

I had it happen on one of my first litings where I sold a raw franklin listing it with a numerical Ms-64 grade. E-bay ended the auction after the close, but the buyer and i completed the sale anyway!

That's the way I see it. If eBay copmplains about it, they had their shot. Doesn't mean they can't do anything about it but this seems perfectly fair. You aren't looking for their protection nor complaining that the other bidders might not have bid it up in case they were confused between PCI and PCGS.

My take on the listing restorations is that Meg's clone drones started seeing a forecast for a very very dismal financial report for this quarter. Nothing more, nothing less. image

I'm happy to report the sale was completed outside of eBay. Buyer happy + seller very happy!! Everybody wins but eBay. They are throwing away profits as the seller told me 3 other auctions were pulled after hammering and all of them were completed today. Stupid company.image

I'd be surprised if it did go "Poof" since its a Power Seller and this is a store item with a Buy It Now. 13 days left on what was probably a 30 day item. These guys seem to have a different set of rules that they play by.

The problem is that all the coin sharks on these boards crack all the good PCI holdered coins and they find a home in a new plastic coffinimage
Maybe we can start of BST board for wayward third and fourth world party slabs? Kinda like the land of misfit toysimage

manorcourtman... You are so right. The smart coin fellas know how to grade (cracking coins out is a by-product of BAD GRADING and it has it's place in our hobby). It's not a difficult thing to do (grade a coin). This website offers not only an insight to proper grading, but it affords all collectors the opportunity to buy with a heck of a lot more confidence than what we get on ebay or at many brick and mortar shops.

    Kind regards,

    Joe
