I just wrote a question to the Xmas rack pack guy.

Here's what I asked:

Are you sure that these are legitimately packaged by Topps? I can't find any mention from other collectors or other websites indicating that Topps produced such a product. Also, back in the 50's, Topps products came with chewing gum. Your rack packs do not appear to have chewing gum from 1958. Also, if the packs are unopened, how do you know that there is a Roger Maris rookie since it's not on the front or back? Can you please explain? Thanks.

He could definitely have his auction cancelled by eBay for keyword spamming.

I like the part where he says, "we were getting ready to send off to GAI since they do grading of these types but it appears they have gone out of business. Would have graded nicely!"

As bad as GAI was, I don't think they would even grade these!

He's going to tell you that he doesn't know if a Maris rookie is in the pack....he'll just say it's the YEAR of the Maris rookie, which COULD be in there.

How was Mark Murphy (who five years ago or so was THE unopened pack guy) able to get away with selling these packs? If you know what I mean by that.

No clue...because you have a VERY valid point about the Topps thing. BUT, I've never seen a rack pack with gum.

These Christams racks are multiplying like rabbits of late. Someone's basement factory must be working overtime! They are most definitely NOT authentic and even GAI refused to holder them, which I'm sure he is well aware of anyway. Very dishonest.

About a year ago there was a seller on Ebay selling handmade racks with certain cards "on top" He was in Canada and was up front about the created pack angle. I bought one with all Reds 1970 3 on top and 3 on bottom all n/mt. I paid 10 and was happy as it was a nice novelty item for my Reds collection. Those so called xmas racks are a novelty piece at best and anyone who buys one has too much money. Will Psa grade the "header" cards? image

Yes, I think when he sold them on Ebay he explained clearly that these packs were indeed not made the same year as the cards. But can still be quite deceptive. Not to mention I think you only get a measly 12 cards in the rack. image

OK, he contends that these are legit packs from Topps. Here's what he said:

"This was a very popular sale back in 1950's and 60's. Just go to closed auctions and reference 1958 cello and Christmas packs, you'll see that they average $190-$300+ a pop. All factory sealed. These christmas packs are very popular on Ebay."

I still don't think that in the 50's Topps would have made a product that did not contain chewing gum. Therefore rack packs would not exist. Correct me if I'm wrong.
