An Australian researcher says there is enough gold buried deep within the Earth's core to cover the entire land surface of the planet to a depth of half a metre.LINK

What I find most amazing besides being one of the most unreactive metals, one ounce of pure gold can be pounded into a thin sheet of metal measuring 300 square feet and can be drawn into a thin wire 5 miles long. Gold is good stuff.

Shoot, I have a 30 x 30 foot cube of gold in my friggin living room. Taint nothing. Hard to vacuum around but other than that it doesn't bother me.
  • No kidding
i would like to know where the mints gets all their metal for coins they sell
    ft knox's or market
  • They get it from the market. They dont pull stocks from Knox....
  • All metals come from market the mints uses
  • Fort Knox. Sort of a quaint, antiquated notion these days, isn't it? But lets some people feel secure, I guess. Me, I'll take plastic and electrons any day. Oh, and this chair. And that's all I need.

It's impossible to know because it's so hard to define just what gold really is. Even science hasn't answered that one. They call it the "Mystery element"

    What century?

Science does not call gold the "mystery element". We can define it very nicely, and understand its nucleosynthesis. We can predict its reactions and understand all of its wonderous qualities.
