I hope most Americas live in the south are dont have a long commute. At least Santa's sleigh will be lighter this year.

$2.69 for gas? Where are you?
I live in northern Ca. 150 miles north of Sacramento and gas in our little town is $3.19- $3.22.
Sure cuts down on disposable income around our house.

gas is a funny animal, isn't it?? i live in Northeast Ohio and over the weekend we were at about $2.75.

i still can't beleive oil is at over $90 a barrel. from my reckoning, we are fighting the wrong peolpe in the wrong place. while we pretend to wage a war to save the world from terrorism, the real terrorists are busy holding up the world and laughing, but that's for another forum on another day!!!

BTW, i'm also having a hard time understanding $800 gold. i wanna buy but not at that price, so i wait.

$2.69 here. Now that OPEC is going to begin building refineries everywhere, prices will ease in the future. How many minutes does it take to build a refinery and get it on line and get the gas in my tank?

Just watch the price of milk. And there is a strong possibility of a shortfall in heating oil supply nonetheless. So watch the weather too. Might be a rough winter for all.

A lot of members here are eating their posts as the price of gold tops $797 per oz to settle at $795 for the day. End of the year, eh? Heck I predicted end of the month but I was wrong by $5. My bad. Get used to gold in the 4 digits because that is what we will see by years end or within Q1 08 for sure. Honestly, if you can find it in you to have spent several thousands of dollars for your wife's engagement ring that probably consisted of $15 of diamonds (actualy value versus De Beers' artificial market value) and X2 on the gold/platinum spotb then ypu can certainly spring for some eagles. Get with it or miss the boat.

There are 3 kinds of people in the world and I think it applies to bullion investors as well.

3. And there are those that wonder "What happened?"

Ironically, you've summarized the gold/currency markets in 2 key words....barbarous relic.
Only gold is not the B-R these days. That's the irony of it all.

$800 this week. With only being this close who's gonna stop it? It's been rumored that the
US banks are out of stopping gold and now want to profit from it (hi Goldman Sachs!) They have
much bigger fish to fry in the credit/derivatives arena. Meanwhile, the European and British banks
are pounding gold each night when it's far easier to do so. Once they run out of juice, then it's on
to $850.

A couple days ago I filled up the tank for $2.58/gal and that didn't include the 3 cents per gallon for the Kroger card. Tack on that 3 cents and a 2% rebate from the credit card, and I save enough for a newspaper!

I am in Sacramento and gas is about the same if not a tad higher.

You caught the irony as intended. THe FR note is increasingly becoming the true relic.

Imagine if some entity decided to produce such a coined Amero, make it 1/10 oz of gold with larger ones to 1 oz and minors of silver and perhaps alloys. They could circulate in time as merchant tokens with REAL intrinsic value, like coins are supposed to have. I am sure a desperate government would not stand for it in increasingly hard times and pass some laws to extremely restrict the holding and use of such. Anyway, our alleged oil friends in white robes might in time accept nothing short of gold for their wares and certainly not declining USDs. This is especially true if the real Gulf threat emerges, the Iranian oil bourse. That is scarier to some in power than a nuclear capable Iran.

Turkey and Western Asia are furious buyers of gold. Oil and gold are responding to the current crisis there.
I was in Turkey two years ago. Nice country, hard working people. Second largest Army in NATO and present at all airports (in force) questioning all travelers. They know how to defend their homeland, just ask the British.

$800 gold is very soon.

We are only at the top of 1st inning of this ballgame. So sit back and watch the fed try to inflate away our problems only creating much bigger ones. Just filled up $3.47 gal diesel here in So Cal. I wouldn't be surprised to see over $5 gal by summer.

24 hours.; used to be that if crude went up, the next day the price went up at the pump too. Kinda hard to imagine them raising prices on gas from oil that was still in the ground.

I get 15 cents off with my kroger + card with $100 worth of grocery purchases a month on one fill up.
