Stocks like The New York Times, ABC, CBS, CNN, LA Times, Washington Post, etc. It would mean that these entities had finally been able to talk down the economy. Which would mean that people had started watching/reading them again

Those stocks are in the tank now!
I manage money. I earn money. I save money . I give away money. I collect money. I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
It would depend on the reasons for, and extent of the dive...but assuming a downturn in the overall economy caused an equal or even greater downturn in the coin market (and coins got cheaper!), I would look at it as a buying opportunity.
And, like OKbustchaser, I'd buy the same things I buy now...but I'd try to buy more of them!
I had the bright idea before to buy shares of Harris Polls (HPOL), thinking when things get rocky, the public opinion poll contracts ramp up. Didn't work for me; so that wasn't the best guess.
I do like the idea of investing in gambling. Liquor too. Bars are always full during the worst of times, even moreso than in the best of times.
Our society has grown increasingly antiempathetically antisocial and violent. So buying ammunition and a decent home security system might be a good idea for some.
If you think the markets are in for a rocky ride, considering protecting some of your long and short positions with options may be something to consider not putting off for another time. It's an expense like any other insurance policy.
Buying US gold bullion (non-slabbed) and silver commems in PCGS 66 and above. Any money left over at the end buys as much US platinum bullion as it left.
Gonna watch the tube...The History Channel should be a clue as to what if any to invest in.... airing a 2 hour show now: "THE LOST BOOK OF NOSTRADAMUS"
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
See, nothing to worry about. People will buy Mercedes, real estate, gold, guns, stocks, pharmaceuticals...And then the economy gets better again. It has ever been thus.

On a micro and a macro level. Don't forget the repeated lessons of Babylon, Greece, Rome, Great Britain, ... Of course, an Italian villa probably weathered the economic ravages of a fallen empire in the end.
<< <i>Quarts of gasoline instead of gallons.... >>
At least pricing per liter sounds more reasonable.
If prices were to drop, I'd look for some nice proof Walkers. If it gets bad enough, I could always head for the Philippines where my pension would be great money.

I think you will have your chance in 2008. Economic indicators all over the place do not look good for the next year or so.

That's what you said last year. And the year before. And...
