When Richard Nachbar retires, will the firm continue using the Nachbar Method™ or just die off?

There have been a few public announcements in Coin World by Richard Nachbar that he is retiring in 2008. I have never dealt with him before, but based on my discussions with others, he seems to be an upstanding dealer. I don't think his staff is very large, but I assume that he has a few employees working for him.

Does anyone know whether a firm such as Nachbar's will continue after he retires, or will it simply fade away and die off? He seems to have built quite a good "brand" and name for himself, so it would be disappointing to see it not continue. Everyone knows that coin dealers typically employ Best Practices, Six Sigma processes, and Total Quality Initiatives in their day to day dealings. I assume that there is some sort of Nachbar Method™ for making purchases and sales that can continue to be replicated after he retires. Does anyone know if a coin firm such as his is bigger than the person/dealer himself, or is the coin firm only the person and simply dies off when the named owner retires?

image I had no idea! Name one.

Added: I was just being a smart guy. Seriously, I had planned on meeting Nachbar one day but now it seems as if I may not. I have no doubt that there are other good dealers out there.

Some CEOs are able to leave their imprint on the corporate culture after they leave, but I'd say that the chances of the followup to a unique style are less likely in a smaller firm.

I assume this was 'tongue-n-cheek' commentary.... especially since none of those programs are applicable to coin dealing. Cheers, RickO

I guess ol' curly isn't "everyone". I have no idea what those fancy words mean. Would "everyone" please explain them to me?

    those fancy words

In the highly specialized world of mass production, the words mean = "our attempt to convince you that we are doing the best we can".

I hope that no one really believe that he is retiring. He is just cutting back his schedule, but I am virtually certain that he would jump at the chance to look at deals in the future.

He will probably not take many, if any, bourse tables, but coin dealers never retire, and I am sure that Richard will not be the first.

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
