tradedollarnuttradedollarnut Posts: 20,204 ✭✭✭✭✭
Dear tradedollarnut,
I'm the seller of the item that you've recently bided through the eBay system.
Item name :1873 TRADE $ CHOICE UNCIRCULATED COUNTERSTAMP JBC Item number:140172455226 and i`ve just been contacted by the eBay staff who informed me that due to some reasons the eBay policy automatically proclaims you to be the winner by default because i want to end my item. I need your agreement on this so I can contact eBay to confirm you that you're the winner, otherwise I'll relist the item. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I need an answer asap to rhichar3dgerer@gmail.com including this email from eBay.
What is your price for my item ?You have oportunity to purchase my item if your offer is resonable for me !!
Waiting for your answer! Best regards!

how do I forward it to ebay???

Yep, sounds like phishing. If you didn't receive the message through the ebay message system too, then I would be convinced it was phishing.

Weird....I know he is one of the premier listers of coins in 'second tier' TPG holders, and screamed publicly about Ebay's new policy. Sounds like he's either trying to work a side deal to avoid fees, or the auction is ending soon (or ended, I haven't checked) and he doesn't feel the last bid is high enough.

someone here probably has bought from this seller before
and will recognize the email address. Will someone help tdn out?

I am curious because that is a strange email.

It's a scam I just got the same thing on a 1941-S Walker that I won. It is because our ebay names, and screen names, and email's names, are the same I think.

Oh and it is not from Centles.

    Forward it to Spoof@ebay.com
  • TomBTomB Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭✭
Once you sign into ebay and go to your My ebay page you can scroll to the bottom of the page to the link for Security Center and this will take you to a page where you can report various problems.

I had to report some fool that pulled this on one of my accounts a while back.

From your e-mail page, with the suspicious e-mail opened in front of you, hit the "forward" button. Then in the space where the "send to" address goes put spoof@ebay.com
    When in doubt, don't.

    I'm thinking third tier.
    Many happy BST transactions
  • TDN, I'm taking it you're not/weren't on eBay's list to provide a 800# for customer service? I know, it sucks, that's
why no more eBay for me.

Phishing scam. Contact Centsles through the "ask a seller" feature if you want to confirm this with him.

    I forwarded it to spoof
  • It's certainly a phishing e-mail. Any mail sent through ebay would have had your actual name in addition to the user name. Copy and paste it into the body of an e-mail and send to spoof @ebay.com

Even though senseless is a sleaze (in my opinion) I believe he's more literate than the above sentence would indicate.
  • sweetwillietsweetwilliet Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭
I bookmarked that auction, and figured that it would shoot up once some people saw who was bidding on it. Now at $437, a far cry from where it was a few hours ago.

Just to pile on...I recently bid on, received and then returned a coin to Centles and though I deleted the email already (easy return at least, but what was that green stuff in the slab?????) I can tell you the emails were polite, friendly even, not to mention literate and signed by a chick. Your email smells to high heaven!

    Cathy

edited to add, it wasn't a fly-by-night slab--I'm not that dumb with Centles, it was a top tier one too....and I do have to compliment the return service--no hassle but frankly it shouldn't have been listed in the first place!

First, there are quite a few misspellings. Note the use of "bided" instead of "bidded", the reverse apostrophe, etc. Note the e-mail address refers to Richard Gere, a famous actor (at least here). Grammar is bad too, probably someone from out of the U.S.

isn't it against ebay rules to list "Choice Uncirculated" in the title?

  • fcfc Posts: 12,793 ✭✭✭
i just forward the copied email to abuse@gmail.com asking for them to look
into it and delete the account.

No you just can not have number grades or PCGS/NGC or what ever unless it is a certified coin.
  • Looks like a scam.
    The auction is still running.
Ebay never contacts a seller to tell then that an underbidder is the winner, never!
    Report it.

Why wouldn't Ebay contact you if you were the highest bidder, or send something to all bidders? His email doesn't sound like something ebay would do.
