1917 Lincoln DDO

So I was going through some pennies I haven't looked at since I was a kid. I was wondering about this 1917 Lincoln - wondering if it might be a DDO? It's not in very good condition so I don't know how you'd ever tell. What do you guys think?

Sorry the pics aren't very good. You can't see distinct doubling, but all of the letters are awfully wide. Is this just wear?

I think you are seeing wear. I cannot really see anything with the images. It is always tough to get good bright pictures of cooper IMO. Someone else may be able to tell otherwise...Good luck.

On a worn one like that the date often will look like the DDO but probably is not.

A good place to look is the inside of the R of trust, even on worn ones if it's the DDO you should see the doubling of the vertical bar of R in the inside of it.

I've got a few in various grades, the lowest being ag-4, and the split on the 9 on it is still quite evident.

Zactly what I was going to say, look for the split on the inner loop of the 9.
  • Thanks guys. I don't think it is DDO...

I hope this may be of some help. It's a PCGS G06 DDO:

The best places to see this DDO in extremely low grades are the inside loop of the 9, the top bar of the 7, and the trunk of the last T in TRUST. Several years ago I put these composite images together to help sell an AG corroded example of the DDO on eBay, I've shared them here before, but you may find them useful again now:
