The Number One Finest Set of All Time - CBHs for sale in auction
We have decided to sell our CBH collection. This collection is currently ranked by PCGS as "The Number One Finest Set of All Time", Capped Bust Half Dollars with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1807 -1839).
We have spent many, many hours and spared no expense trying to find the most attractive AU58 example of each and every variety identified in the PCGS set. In our collection we also included an 1807 Bearded Goddess in VF30, and 1814 Single Leaf in AU55, an 1823 Tampered 3 in AU58 and an 1836/1336 in AU58. The set includes 60 coins in AU58 with most being, in our opinion, the most attractive example of the variety we've ever seen. Several of the lower graded coins could have been represented by a higher grade example but, again in our opinion, the coin already in the set was more attractive than any other we came across.
It's difficult to pick out our favorite coin but there are many that are absolutely superb. The 1807 Small Stars, the 1809 III (Prooflike), the 1812/1 Large 8 (the finest we've ever seen and definitely undergraded), the 1814 E/A, the 181.7.....we can go on and on!
The collection will be offered in auction at the Baltimore show next month (November). The sale will be conducted by Bowers & Merena auctions. We thought this was the fairest way to sell the coins as we have been approached by many of you with inquiries on the same coin. The coins can be viewed either on Bowers & Merena's website Bowers & Merena or on the PCGS Registry site Premium's CBH set.
Many of the coins will have reserves. We never looked at building this collection from a profit perspective. Any reserves will be simply to minimize our exposure through the sale.
Please call me to discuss any of the coins. We can provide larger photographs, personal descriptions, estimated values, etc.
Thanks for your support and good luck at the sale!

when i sell my collection.
There has been a lot of Bust Half liquidating lately.
Really? I only know of an NGC registry set that Heritage sold privately at the beginning of the year. Other than that I know of no other collection selling in the past year. If anything, choice CBHs have been disappearing from the market.
What liquidaty are you refering to?

It wasn't that long ago that LL was offering to pay $2000 for an AU58 1813 half. The fervor of the that period is not present today.
But no doubt these CBH's will get a wide audience with strong $$.

1. Make a joke about your auction. (my personal favorite)
2. Be a dealer who does so much business with PCGS that the dealer thinks that PCGS would be afraid to move their spam thread to the BST.
3. Post a picture of your coin(s) and then later casually mention that the coin(s) are for sale.
Im tired of people using the coin forum for personal gain

I thought that there might be a few out there that would enjoy the photos on the Registry.
It's only the finest of all time (actually the Friend set is better) and is 100% complete save for the 1817/4. I know there are varities included in the set that most on this forum have never seen, let alone owned.
As I said in my msg this is not a 'for profit' venture. The whole idea of assembling the set was to demonstrate that a choice AU set (PCGS AU58) could be assembled without breaking the bank.

Without a doubt, this set will sell on its own merits, as they are some really nice CHB's. However, when others see this post it may start an avalanche of similar posts.
its happened before.
Oh, did I mention, it is a really nice set

<< <i>How dare someone mention a fine set for sale in the coin forum, it pushes all the ebay threads, the rubber chicken stories etc. off the first page.
4. Make the description of your spammed coins educational. This can be done before or after mentioning that the coins are for sale, preferably before.
<< <i>It's only the finest of all time >>
It is a wonderful set of coins, and you certainly stepped up to land them, but finest of all time? Perhaps among PCGS registry sets, but there have been a number of sets that I'd consider finer, notably deOlden, Prouty, McClerg, Meyer, Brilliant.
Best of luck at the sale!
<< <i>I do not mind much posting an advertisement for a set for sale on this forum, nearly as much as I mind suggesting that this is really the greatest set of bust halves of all time. Even though PCGS recognizes it as the finest ever registered set, it is an insult to our collective intelligence to intimate that there is anything "finest known" about it. >>
Please don't include me in the collective intelligence part of your post.

The rubber chicken has never posted a collection it was selling!!!!

And I bet that every single one of them thinks that THEIR situation was different and therefor OK.
Really sad, but I bet that every one of them has a sneaky suspicion that GAZILLIONS of
us have seen right through it and won't forget.
Well if they do think that............they would be right

That is because they are overpriced.

In the bust half world, its a starter set with more than 350 varieties left to go. The finest and most complete bust half collections have never seen the registry. One of the best CBH sets of all time in terms of overall grade, quality, and completeness was recently sold (2006) in three major public sales - more than 400 varieties, most in MS grades.

Sure would break my little piggy bank.

Ignore the whiners! Any good collector appreciates the info, and it far out weighs the spam value of the post.
Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
Having spent a bunch of time collecting and studying this series, I have to say that while it is impressive in its completeness, it is by far not the 'finest'. I can think of at least four or five right off the top of my head that are out there in circ grades that are superior to those listed, regardless if the grade is the same.
I love how I sent that 1818 in three times to get into a PCGS AU58 holder (it was a 55 when I sold it) only to end up later in the right holder. It used to be an ANACS 58, then a NGC AU58...now PCGS finally got it right.

As usual on this forum the most vocal are those who are the most frustated and really have nothing to offer. I really don't care what these losers have to say. Hopefully this post will be of interest to the few real collectors who visit this forum.

Sure hope this set is not now going up for auction because Prenum thinks the Bust Half Dollar market is about to drop.
If you don't know what you are talking about then why do you offer your uneducated opinion?
This is what is wrong with this forum. A bunch of people making noise that really don't have any experience but feel entitled to voice their opinion.

Of course there are plenty of coins available in the grade range of AU thru AU 58, esp. for the dates after 1822. And those dates/varieties will not command any new higher than present market prices.
But there are semi-keys that don't show up very often in the earlier dates-- these coins, if nice for the grade, will continue to rise, IMO.
The 1807 lg and small stars, 1808/7, 1812/1 large 8, 1814/13, 1814 E/A. 1815, 181.7 punc. date, 1820 sq date, no knob, 1820/19, 1822/1.
And even a few later dates are not so easy to find nice.
The jury may be out on what range of prices the Premium coins will bring, but my money is on the large collector base that will be bidding- with fair to higher prices being realized.

You goofed up and broke forum ettiquette and then, when called on it, instead of apologizing and taking the high road, you try to demean people.
Guess it WAS all about the money and that's all you care about, right?
Too difficult to apologize then post it on the BST and Registry forums? That IS what those forums are all about.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Any of the people on this forum that have any interest, or capacity, to buy coins out of this collection already knew about the auction. Therefore your (and others) assumption that this is an advertisement is ill founded.
Instead of ranting on about ebay, mint shipments and other 'serious' collecting issues, you might learn something by looking at some real coins.

Thanks for pointing out that only YOUR definition of "real coins" is all that matters.
I can see by your postings that you have contributed a lot to these boards, right?

<< <i>For all it's worth, I want to hear about it when good coins are getting sold. Then again, these are only circs.
I have to agree.
The problem is that much of our world today is rule based rather than principle based. In principle, many of us like to see a post like this. In rule, it is against the rules. I'm not bothered by an occasional and un-mailicious rule violation, especially if my principles are not compromised. But I also understand the improtance of rules in modern society.--Jerry

7. Deny that you are spamming your coins because your coins are so great that everyone who is anyone already knew they were for sale. (This leads to the obvious question about why you mentioned your coins in the first place, but don't bother with petty details like that.)
you say you spent "many hours" of time on finding coins, but some collectors have spent many DECADES - & still are'nt done yet

I dont think so.

My set is ranked number 4 there but in reality I am not number 4 even in the county I live in. And i have the 15 and 7 and others as well just not in pcgs plastic. Lots of old time collectors near me.
I do wish you well on your sale of gorgeous halfs.
