David Lawrence Auction Experience
Anybody every use David Lawrence's auction site? It seems like bids start a little high for many of the coins, but I am unfamiliar with how well they sell there. I did see a whole slew of his coins go unsold on eBay yesterday. I was interested in a couple, but it concerns me when I can't see the market float the price. Any thoughts?

over the last years i have bought a few coins from them.
everytime i get what i paid for with no hassles.
beware of overpaying though. make sure you really want it.
call them and ask them about the coin in detail. make a list
of your questions.

Reserves tend to come in on the high side, but I've never been misled by the descriptions. Shipping has been faster than Heritage, except once when I was on vacation and dropped a check in the mail, which is understandable.
On direct sale listings from their site (non-auction listings), I've found that if I send an offer of 5-6% below the asking price, it will often be accepted. After a couple of auction wins, DL sent me a coupon for 6% off a non-auction purchase from their site.
My only real complaint is the high reserves, but I guess I've been spoiled by the pre-bull market.

However, they have a nice prices realized display next to each coin at auction which is very cool.
Other than that, I have had nothing but good, satisfying experiences with them!

<< <i>Thanks for all of your responses! It seems like the opinions here are overwhelmingly positive. I know I've seen many great coins on the site, but have been afraid to pull the trigger yet. I think I'll continue to watch over the next few months to get a feel for how well the lots do. >>
Another " STELLER" dealer to deal with is RCNH, (Rare coins of New Hampshire) . Jon and Warren are great ! Just tell them what you are looking for and you will not be dissapointed. Another dealer which I think I cannot mention here is "STELLER" also ,

Three small complaints:
1) Slow website. It's over-engineered, and should be simplified.
2) Their images don't represent the coin very well. Sometimes the coin is better, sometimes the image is. I can't get a handle on them.
3) I wish they still handled raw Barber material. They used to have a great selection!
Overall, a 1st class outfit. I have dealt with them for almost 20 years.

Customer service was good and I got my coin quickly upon payment with my c/c.
Based on my experience, I don't think you're going to get any great deals from them, but you'll know what you are getting and get it at a fair price if you know what you are doing. I would do business with them again.

I agree! I purchased a 1972 Type 2 IKE in AU55 and the coin appeared brown on their website. When it arrived it was a beautifully toned sintered planchet!

We've bought from them many times and have consigned coins to them twice. The few problems we've encountered, over a period of several years, have always been taken care of promptly and courteously to our complete satisfaction. The DLRC GAP (Guaranteed Auction Program) works exactly as advertised. If the coin sells over the reserve by any amount they give you the full hammer price.
My only complaint is how slow the DLRC website has become. There are many times now I will move on instead of waiting for a DLRC search or DLRC page to load.
For buying online, DLRC is right up there at the top, IMHO.
