1879-O PCGS MS64 - the most colorful example of this date seen yet ... and yeah, I really do think this belongs in an MS65 holder ...

Gee! I love looking at this thread! You guys have some great toners and some really fine photography skills to boot. I'm posting this not because it is a great toner, but to illustrate lighting. This 1969 Kennedy sat for many years in one of those after market silk-lined wooden display boxes. As most know I like to shoot using natural light (because it's more ... natural). These three shots really show the impact of lighting and camera approach on the final photo. The first was shot dead on with the coin upright - the coin is raw, and the coin surface is somewhat hazy. The second, the coin was rotated 90 degrees to the left and shot with the camera sitting a few degrees to the right of TDC - less haze and better color. The third, the coin was rotated 90 degrees to the right and shot with the camera sitting a few degrees to the right of TDC - again, haze is less pronounced and the color is more vibrant. The colors are as they apper on the coin in-hand. I prefer the look of the third shot due to the lighting of JFK's face.

Great pick up, Mesquite. A ship coin, with a rainbow crescent. Tough to find those with any color, what with the issued encapsulation, much less like that beauty. Congrats.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Hey Mesquite! Looky what I got. The reverse colors and reflectivity are somewhat washed out by the late October afternoon shade illumination, but it's a real kaleidoscope of rainbow dots, like a Georges Seurat pointillist masterpiece. That's a bit of shadow at 9 o'clock, not a blemish. I think this one will go 68.

OK pharmer - you're obviously having difficulty imaging that coin. May I suggest that you send it to me? I frequently excel at photographing raw Canadian Commems. I'll return it to you .... I promise. image

I'm assuming that the last two posts are different shots of the same coin. Please don't tell me they are shots of two different coins - my image could not bear the news!

This one arrived just yesterday. NGC MS66. Satin luster is not showing up very well, but the color is accurate.
