Are we talking card values or careers?
    My Giants collection want list

WTB: 2001 Leaf Rookies & Stars Longevity: Ryan Jensen #/25
  • Just about any rookie from 89 to 91.

I thought I was a savvy 13 year old spending $125-150 on a 91 Leaf Gold set (ehhhhhhh). Ryan Klesko??

89 sure was a big year..Sabo, Mark Grace, Jeffries, Ricky Jordan!!, then those elusive UD high numbers...$25 Jerome Walton and a $8 Dwight Smith.

Jim Abbott. To a kid, him having one hand was such a big deal.
  • I had it from an authority within the Yankees' organization that shortstop Hensley Mullens was a sure-fire all-star and future hall-of-famer. I do not think that tip is going to work out, but I have a bunch of his cards just in case.
  • Not a BIG collection but....Had around 10 Ben McDonald RC and 10 Eric Anthony RC. Oh and Jerome Walton.

Wha... ?? Bills no good? crap

  • Greg Swindell... Was a big fan of his college days and thought he was can't miss. He did make one all-star team. I think I have a few hundred rookies. Also Mark Lewis and Monty Farris.
  • Ben McDonald

    and for basketball

Ben Petrick 1996 Bowman...I still own over 100
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • 92 bowman Kenny Lofton card #110. "This must be undervalued!!! Chipper Jones 91 bowman is $2 and so is Lofton, but his 92 bowman is $20+ and Lofton is only $6. I think Ill buy all I can."

I sold my 150 ct of Lofton on ebay months ago for about $5. Needless to say I lost a little on that deal.

Oh, this thread is bringing back vivid memories of the multi-colored cardboard that Donruss put out in 1989. Ricky Jordan, Quintana, Jeffries, etc.

'92 (or was it '91?) Pacific football and '91 UD hockey. Lots and lots of boxes bought at $36-45 a box. Wounded up giving them away a few months ago.

  • I am going to say any '89 Upper Deck high numbers like Jerome Walton, Dwight Smith, Todd Zeille, Jim Abbott, etc.
I remember some of those cards going for around $12-$15 each! I think you can probaly buy the 100 card set now for around $3-$4.

    Todd van Poppel.

Before he even threw a pitch in the majors, Beckett got him and Nolan Ryan together for a cover pic. Pff.

He managed to make a few million bucks playing big league baseball, but as for him becoming the heir apparent to Nolan Ryan? Heh.

  • There are several, but I'd have to say I spent way too much trying to get as many Ryan Leaf RC's that I could. What a shame.....

How about the Craig Graig Nettles cards from 80 fleer?

And lets not forget the 1979 topps Bump Wills-blue jays /rangers

I bought about 5 boxes of 1992 Upper Deck in late 1992, because I found them at the then bargain price of $19.99 ea. If I would have hit the Ted Williams auto, it would have been worth it. Anyone need any '92 UD singles? image

Currently, my hoard of Mark Mulder rookie cards isn't looking too good.

This is an oldie but a goodie. Carmelo Martinez, he came up late in the year with the cubs and I bought several rookie cards from a dealer when I was quite young. Ill never forget this because the Cubs traded him the following spring and the dealer said "What a bonehead move by the Cubs trading Carmelo".

  • Darrell Strawberry- we were good friends in the early 90's he lived right down the street from us. I got his autograph, been to his house, met his family, he was a really cool guy! I was invited over alot of times to his bar-b-ques, this guy was a cool dude! I collected every single card of the guy, then one day his head got too big, his ego and drive for baseball disappeared, and later his life ruined by drug possession! The guy could have gone to the Hall of fame if it not for the Cocaine that controlled him.

Darren Henley - Los Angeles Ram's Cornerback In the early 90's I was great friends with his family, he was a nobody but strived to be somebody, I knew him as a friend and I collected his cards, I knew his brother and mother and was good friends. I'd give her cards to sign for me and the guy would show up in person to deliver them. just barely a year and a half into his career, same thing charged with drug possession, chose the cocaine over his career and now is serving time in Prison for manslaughter.

    Sad!

Oh you had to bring up painful memories again. I bought hordes of 1987-1989 Topps and the biggest bust, 1988 Topps Bigs. I bought 15+ boxes at $15-20 each and couldn't sell them for 99-cents on ebay last year. Pretty much threw away all of the 1987-1989 and gave away the Bigs.

But that doesn't answer the question of "who". Just pick any player from those years.

i forgot about stawberry and gooden lol ,that sucked too-both of em ruined their careers with nose candy!
  • Had a choice a few years back 500 Topps traded Mike Lamb rookies or 500 Michael Young traded rookies. I took the Lamb, later bought 100 of the Young's though. Have about 50 waiting to submit just never have done it yet..
  • Then there's Ben Grieve 1994 Topps Traded.....
For basketball, I think of Grant Hill.
