ANACS was giving out these samples at Long Beach

Here are some photos of the sample holder ANACS was giving out at the Long Beach show.

They stand up on edge pretty easily.
The interlock "feel" when stacking them is superb. It wouldn't surprise me if you could stack 100 or more of them with no problem.
A recessed 'groove' runs around the edge of the holder where the halves are sealed together.
The bottom of the holder has two raised 'curbs' that protect the bottom of the holder from scuffing.
The overall feel is very rugged and durable.
Cracking out coins from these babies is going to be tough!
The ANACS folks I spoke to are extremely pleased with this new holder.

When in doubt, don't.

my first reaction is, man that looks cheap and ugly.

do coin people at anacs design this stuff? they really need to hire
an artist or someone who understand colors/design.

the layout is just terrible. i could do better with 4 hours, paper,
    and pencil.

everything about it looks cheap and lame.

    my two cents.

Insert edged tool in recessed groove, strike sharply... voila'... cracked open. Cheers, RickO

As much as I'm rooting for ANACS to come up with a nice slab... I have to agree these look cheesy.

Being easy to crack open (but not reseal) may be a desirable feature if their customers are using them as pre-review for crossing to other TPGs.

Is it the plastic that is cheesy or the paper insert and hologram? The front view of the slab doesn't look that different from SEGS which people have said they like.

another thing that bothers me is that the plastic is not crystal
clear near the coin, especially the rim area.

couldn't that be totally clear and more viewable?

I've only seen the small ring around the edge on PDs. My guess is that it enhances viewing the edge lettering because those photos also came with ones showing how legible the edge lettering is through the small ring.

I got one after I handed them 3 submissions. My initial impression was they were cheesier than before and almost regretted handing them some coins. The immediate thought is that they would be a lot easier to cut open and reseal. However, after looking over the construction, I don't think that would really be very easy. (If they had given me two samples, I would have tried it on one of them.) The edge viewability is not really good and would be impossible to use for any imaging. Probably could do infrequent or overlapped reeded Morgans fine though as the the larger diameter would bring that ring near the slab edge. Big downside is the crevice on 3 sides. Dealers will be flossing out bourse food from them regularly.

Hm. They look better than the curvy ones. My first reaction at the ANACS table would have been to try to twist one open. I still don't like the label composition. PSNR to low with all the advertising and halftoned blue marbly pattern. I think that's one of the draws of their smaller slabs. Since most slabs just have date, denomination, and grade, there's a lot of space that goes unused, and not filling it with something must just feel wrong. The smaller slabs had less room for noise on them, thus less noise. If only they could see fit to use all that real estate for meaningful information.

They look way less cheesy than the flimsy ones they replaced.

    They do look better!
Hope they stop changing so often.

Hmm. Which is rarer, ANACS slab V.3.4b or V.3.5a? I can just see that crap someday.

Yea the more rounded slab before this new one will someday be called the "art deco" slab style. LOL image
