Poll: Which coin would you keep?

I could not decide which quarter eagle to keep in my "Box of 20", so, for now, I have two of these. I like them both equally, and for different reasons. Assume that the value is approximately the same and neither is a better date. Which one would you keep (and why)?

From personal experience, the 49 is very nice in hand.

Coin A (1847) looks better from the pics...the ding on the high cheek bone under the eye of the 1849 really stands out to me.

I would have to take rarity into consideration and the difficulty in finding an unmolested example.

Overall the 47 appears to be the better coin.

The 49 does look like it has nice color however.

'47 has nicer detail, and the ding on the other is a bit of a turnoff. I reserve the right to change my mind with the coins in-hand!

I like the 47. It appears to have more even color.
Also, the nick under the eye on the 49 jumps out at me....but I realize you probably don't notice that in-hand to the same degree.

My first thought was to keep the 49-D QE. It has a rich, reddish natural dirty look that I have not seen on another such coin. However, the 47-D has a very attractive, original appearance that is quite similar to the Green Pond 47-D quarter eagle, which Doug Winter, in his book, called "the single prettiest Dahlonega quarter eagle I have seen." The 49-D is a little better date, and the 47-D is a little higher grade. Decisions, decisions...

PS I just asked my son, and, in-hand, he liked the 49-D better. I guess that clinches it....maybe....

However, I maintain thereis nothing magical about a box of 20 and I would keep them both. Consider a 2 boxes of 20 then 3 boxes of 20 so forth...

I was still undecided, so I asked Mrs. RYK. I have never done this before. She liked the 1847-D better (and even threw around some coin lingo). She suggested keeping both. Since I cannot make up my mind, I will keep both. Perhaps, I will sell off something else or live the rest of my collecting life with a Box of 21. Roberto Clemente was/is my favorite baseball player of all times, so the "21" number has some meaning for me.

Personally I'd go with choice 6, keep both and buy longacres coin from the BST board.

That you considered the opinion of the Mrs. likely clinched the fact that you'll be keeping both in your possession... A woman is a friend and you can give her a big numismatic hug from me for suggesting that you keep them both. She knows what's good for her man

(her opinion, of course)

As for the box of 20, it shall stay intact. You will have one coin to circulate outside of the box for "show and tell"... how nice your wife is.
