Sometimes I do just for the fun of it. I try to make sure I won't win. If a 93-s PCGS vf35 is at $250 I comfortably bid $1000 over that knowing I won't get lucky.

Yep, I have gotten myself into trouble more times than I can count. I am a biddaholic and have been bid free for 6 months now.

I only bid on things I intend to win.... and if I REALLY want it, I always get it.

Considering the nice coins in your collection, I bet those were some expensive accidents!

I sometimes get caught up in the excitement of bidding...but not often. I usually can't afford the kinds of coins I would like to bid on anyway - and thankfully I know, understand and accept that.

Those were not accidents.

The ones I mentioned you wouldn't believe! All were subsequently sold...and never better than a break-even.

The only coin I own that was remotely an "accident" was my low-ball bid on the 1920-S MS64 Saint. It happened at FUN 2007...I never expected to buy it at that price, but when I did I was blown away! People just fell asleep on that one.

One just sold for 20K more this week.

I bid all the time, usually 20% below what its worth. If I win great, I can flip for a profit if not no biggey.

HAHA I did & WON, now wish I hadn't.

Bought a 1966 230S on eBay a few years ago for $2,500. By the time I had it transported to me & the _numerous repair bills I have over 27K tied up in it & it STILL looks like a "junk-yard-dog"..

snipe!! is the answer. I like to setup a snipe, set a price, raise it, cancel it, and set a snipe again all up to the last 12 hours of bidding.
