My First 18th Century US Mint Gold Coin

Today I received my first 18th century US Mint gold coin and I am quite happy with the piece. It was recently in RYK's collection and was purchased through Dave and John of Coin Rarities Online. I have had myriad 1790s and early 1800s gold coins sent to me over the years only to ship them all back because their surfaces were not as choice as the images suggested or as the piece was described. This coin, however, is thankfully one of the few that has not been dipped-to-death nor did it cost moon money, in my opinion. Of course, if one were bargain hunting then the piece might not have been purchased, but when truly nice coins are offered they will typically command a much more robust price than generic examples of the issue.
I am not concerned with the die variety, but for those interested this is what was written on the CRO site "BD-6 variety, considered to be Rarity-6 with just 30-40 known in all grades". The coin is lovely, has a nice patina, is devoid of excessive slide marks or other light perterbations of the surfaces that would produce a glint in the light and has some wonderfully cool die breaks. I wish I could buy more coins like this, but they do not exist in meaningful quantities.

Considering how few of those coins are available in VF (I rarely see anything lower in grade than an mid-range AU), getting an attractive and not-too expensive example is quite a score!
