Thought ebay would pick up after Labor day but it's dead

I guess all the buyers are still on vacation?

The high bids I've seen for seated halfs suggests prices are beginning to pick up. Semi-keys are selling for 50% above PCGS retail.

I listed a number of coins recently and have been surprised at the high level of interest; I expected less. I don't make my living selling coins so my opinion as an individual data point does not contribute much to the mean, median or standard deviation as descriptors of the point raised by the OP. I expected fewer and lower bids than I have received. For what it is worth.

All the fraud on eBay and their cavalier attitude towards it is coming home to roost.

It may happen sooner then you think..look at gold.. even with a large interest rate cut , gold was unchanged today.... We are going back to 1979 - 1980.. inflation here we come image

i've only got one coin listed right now, and with 5 days left, it is bid at double it's current book value. depends on what you're selling I guess; high quality always seems to do pretty well on ebay year 'round.

I read that they are doing away with "illegitimate grading" image

That is the funniest thing I read on their new policy.
  • it really depends on what your selling, and how your selling it.

the everyday generic stuff is soft. our sales have been very slow the last 10 days.

I do mostly store listings. ebay express is listed ABOVE the store linky usually, and ebay
is doing this promotion with free under $9.99 and reduced above that on their listing fees,
    so our sales have suffered.

things seem to be all over the board, if you have lots of gold your Midas I guess.

collector date stuff always seems to be good.

Why not post a link so those of us who were fishing and missed it can see if you need forgiveness.

Formerly as CatBecca and now as EstateRoadShow our focus has been on live auctions connected to eBayLive. We list on eBay for 10 days then hold the live auction. In 2001 we could expect 3000+ bids and 125 bidders signed on eBayLive, now getting 300 bids is difficult and having 25 signed on bidders is the norm.

Our last event showed something amazing, we received MORE bids from AuctionZip.com (a free site) than eBay for the first time since 2001, and those bids accounted for 33% of the winning bids.

My opinion is that the magic of no reserve auctions where the chance to win something at a great price is gone on eBay. Sort of like going to a Casino where the house always wins.

With EstateRoadShow, we are taking off where the old CatBecca model left off before we sold the company in 2005. We are listing 600 items at a time worth $25-$5000 and starting all items at $5 / no reserve. The focus is on the big picture, not on individual items. If more sellers did this, I think the magic might return. We have never lost money using this method, focusing on the big picture not individual items.

In the meantime, other sites like AuctionZip are gaining ground on eBay - heads up folks!

I had four Morgan VAMs close Wednesday afternoon. One coin sold for what I expected the other three went for much more than I thought they would. I have more up and have much higher bids than I thought I would with days remaining on the auctions. Some of those coins are already bid beyond what I thought they would bring. Perhaps there really has been an explosion of VAM interest; this is my first try in selling a significant number of them.
