After reading this article, is it me, or does this really show why a large amount of people have such disdain for the guy??

"Ecko did not directly respond to Bonds' comments Wednesday, but said in a statement he would make Bonds a custom T-shirt that says, "Marc Ecko paid $752,467 for my ball, and all I got was this 'stupid' T-shirt.'"

This is a much better business publicity stunt than a Superbowl tv ad. Much cheaper too.

I think it would be a shame to do anything to this ball other than put it in the hall for sure. If it gets branded, well, whatever, it's just a ball. However, Ecko may have a fairly solid marketing stunt. He'd pay much more than 3/4 mil for a 30 second blip on TV to run for a couple of months. While we may not flock to the stores to purchase his line, we probably never would have anyway. Someone out there will pay attention to this, and for a short while, a fad may ensue. If nothing else, he's getting web hits from people who never cared about Ecko and would have never given him a look.

Dude the guy is a genious, some marketing professionals on radio have said that with all the media attention he has already generated enough attention that would have cost over 20 million to do by normal advertising. Rick Haro commented something along those lines as well. You know shoot it into space is going to win

Ecko made a very savvy move... heck he could take a fat schnap on the ball, put the video of said act on YouTube and probably get an even better ROI

Funniest thing is it doesn't matter what the 'votes' say, Ecko is going to give the ball to the hall, regardless of how many votes go otherwise.

Meanwhile, 755 is passing under the radar.

I voted for the *, personally---I'd rather it stick around than be effectively destroyed, but am fine with the "blemish".

If that is selected, however, I'm guessing that the HOF would reject it due to the stated (i.e. purposely skating the controversy) problem of it not being in its original state. What would happen then?

Uhh, this has been going on for the entire evolution of man. RE: Egypt and the grave robbers. The Roman and Greek ruins all over Europe. American Indians in North America.

This is not a possibility but a reality! When people have the option to decide history, they often do not realize it is happening at that moment.

I would generally agree with that thought process, but, romantically speaking, the idea of the ball being branded almost adds to the history. The idea speaks a loud social commentary, and though the ball only has importance because of the act of one man, the concept of baseball as "the" American Pass Time says that the fans of the game essentially own the ball. The same fans who are deciding its fate. I don't think this ball is completely through writing its pages in the history books.

I'm just glad the same irrational few who clamor for the asterisk on this ball aren't in charge and weren't around to say Maris' 61st HR ball should have been marked with an asterisk.
