Mama says drink milk for healthy bones.......

She didn't say shat about how it turns gem ASE's into junk.

Funny thing is it only happened to the 96 ASE's, in the NGC slabs. Eagles in PCGS slabs are fine.

2 months ago spotless, today I get milked. I have had these for years, then out of the blue,

the coin God zapped me, ha.

I am no longer collecting any ASE, period, selling everything this fall, over 300 ounces.

The 20th Anniversary sets are going as well, before they are hit with spoiled milk.

If you have ASE's, they will milk eventually. You heard it here first.

Will NGC buy these back for current market value, yeah right.

Say no to milk.

Some never spot..... and others look like a baby barfed on them... I still maintain - and I have posted this in the past, several times, that if a forum member could subject the milk spotted surface to a SEM (scanning electron micrograph), we may be well on our way to solving this issue. I no longer have access to one or I would do it... Cheer, RickO

Milk spots? No problem. You still have just as much silver there. Such fusses over bullion.

Like Turtle Wax? I was thinking of cracking them out and hitting them with a bathroom steam cleaner. Yes No?

I totally understand it's an ounce of silver .999. I understand silver is at $12.73 an ounce.

You can't buy Unc. 96 Eagles anywhere on the planet earth for $12.73 a piece.

Not true, plenty of the 2006 RP's have milked. Infact there was a post of 2006 RP70,

that milked in the PCGS plastic. Now that hurts.

3/20/95....making them '95 ASEs; need to correct that. Have to see what the '96s were, but would be whatever the market price was at the time. All UNCs. I bought for the silver.

  • I have a hard time grasping the fascination with collecting slabbed ase's, and people that fuss over 69's vs. 70's.... but I understand your pain at finding those milk spots. I got very pissed when a few of my cameo proof franklins spotted up after I stored them in the safety deposit box. Sometimes it's just difficult keeping coins pristine, and think there's some type of spiritual message in that...

Thats why I'm giving up on ASE's, and the hobby period, not buying any more. The only bullion I'm buying will be from AMPEX,

in the form of silver and gold bars, the hell with coins. Coins are a waste of time and money they spot, tarnish, tone ugy,

and are susceptible to pop reports. Plus there is the whole submission game with the TPG's. Bullion bars are easier to store, just throw them

in a safe, and forget about them. I guess the only involvement in coins I'll have, is to rip and flip. Even my Dansco 8100 filled with Lincoln

cents, has turned most of them into spotted junk.

Buy original toned barbers, seated, etc with an original skin and you can avoid this problem. Just a suggestion and not a slam against anything modern.

I will probably keep all my Morgans, Busts, and what seated I have. But no way am I holding anything modern from the Slaughter House.

Namely ASE's, and commems, yes even some of my modern commems have fell victim to milking.

    Thanks for the support John,

On a serious note... the spots are not good. I empathize. Even Ron Guth one time put the feelers out that if anyone had a suggestion as to how they (milk spots) could/ should be addressed... to let PCGS know.
It sure takes the collectibility out of the picture.
  • So far the only one I have in a slab does not have milk..... its a 2006-W
