proposed 1972 topps baseball rip, all gone

Someone mentioned before that they wouldl ike to do a 72 topps rip. I have 18 5th series(pete rose and nolan ryan) GAI packs. They are graded as follows , 1 -9 , 10 8.5's 6-8's and a 1 - 7.5. I would sell them for $128 shipped each , add $5 if you want to use paypal, only if the whole lot were sold and I would pack them up and mail them boxed to everyone. Since there are differing grades , i would randomly pack them up and then put the shipping labels. They would all be boxed so if someone wanted more than 1 pack , Iwould combine them by repacking them to be fair to all. all 18 packs would need to be accounted for for the rip to happen.

if this sounds feasible to anyone and you are interested , please reply to the thread or send me a pm. If you guys don't think it is a good idea then just let me know and I will put the box away as I was planning. The packs came already graded from a mastro lot as they are now.

so far here is what we have , I just checked the costs . 1 pack $128 ($4 extra for paypal if you want to do paypal ) 2 packs $253 ( $7.80 extra for paypal if paypal payment wanted) I think I will take the 7.5 pack so i can be involved meaning all the packs going out will be 8-9's to make it easier and to avoid any conflict on the random selections.

    Very tempting. I am not sure how they were issued.......Do the packs contain only series 5 cards or do they include the previous series also. How many cards in the packs?

    packs contain 10 cards , the back card on each pack is a 5th series card so they should be all 5th series cards. the only variation to this that I have seen are 5th/6th series packs which have 5 cards on the front 5th series and 5 in the back 6th series which is possible since the back card can not be seen through the wrapper but the mixed series packs are scarcer than the single series packs so I would venture these are all 5th series although I have not opened any from this lot.

    just pulled the packs out , looks like we there will only be 17 packs available. mastro slipped in a pack that was graded at a different time and I can not verify the series so I am going to pull that one out as I don't know the unless someone really wants it, it was 1 of the gai 8 packs. The other 17 have a 5th series card showing face up on the back. thanks

    I bought and paid for two, but wouldn't mind if you wanted/needed to swap one of my packs out for the GAI 8 series 6 pack. I'm just anxious to rip into the two packs!

    Just got and ripped my pack. It was a GAI 8.5. Cards received are:

    543 Duane Josephson about 60/40 l-r + t-b
    534 Jim Hickman 60/40 l-r. 70/30 t-b
    536 Doug Rader 50/50 l-r, 80/20 t-b
    655 Jerry Grote 60/40 l-r, 90/10 t-b
    632 Mike Hegan 60/40 l-r, 80/20 t-b
    678 Steve Luebber diamond cut about 60/40, 90/10
    704 Doug Griffin IA diamond cut about 70-30 both ways
    718 Del Rice 15/85 l-r, 95/5 t-b, miscut on back
    657 Bobby Wine 20/80 l-r, 90/10 t-b
    737 Lenny Randle gum fused to card and soaked in, 10/90 l-r, 60/40 t-b

    Good news is that all cards have sharp corners, and appear to be original to the pack.

    I wish you guys better luck, next time I gamble it will be on a box of 2007 Allen & Ginter.

    The Grote card is a very tough card to get even in a PSA 8. Sounds like an authentic pack. Sorry to hear about the centering issues, a common problem for cards from this era.

    Received my two packs (Thanks Packcollector) and both packs had 4 high numbered card within each pack.

    The first scan shows the best cards. All will grade 8 or 9.

    The second scan is ones that won't grade, but all but the Mota Card are high Numbers and bring value to the rip.

    Cards also received JC Martin, Chico Salmon, both OC T/P and High Numbered K. Aspromonte and High # Alan Gallagher IA, both heavy gum stained.
