This is typical, usually you only get an update after the package has been delivered.

  • Even worse... try calling them and asking about the track or providing better/updates info. I had one of those characters get an attitude with me. Probably that time of the month for her.

Yep, the worst tracking system of the lot.

This is an absolutely worthless appendage... I have NEVER had any results when checking.. including a 'delivered' notice. Complete waste. Cheers, RickO

    Ever? More like "always."
  • I find usually the tracking will show a scan of the package arriving at my post office zip code in the morning so I can expect the package to be delivered that day.

The USPS system is quite weak. I use registered mail and it only shows the date I gave them the package and when it was delivered, or delivery was attempted. There is no intermediate tracking to know where it is. A normal, i.e. not priority registered mail took TWO weeks to go from the east coast to california. No wonder UPS and FedEx do so well.

  • I think the problem maybe the misconception that Delivery Confirmation is a tracking number. It was not designed to be such. As the name implies, it is intended to be used as a confirmation that delivery has occured and on what day and time the delivery or attempted delivery was made. As I referred, it will usually give you a 'heads up' when the package has arrived at the post office so you can expect delivery that day. When used in that context, it is generally reliable in my experience.

  • There is a Postal Processing center near my office and when I ship packages from there, the received scan shows up on their web site. But when shipped from a regular PO, only the delivery shows. I've neverhad much luck seeing the Registered Mail info.

But I've always received my packages from PCGS within 4-5 business days of them being shipped and I am on the east coast!
I'd keep playing. I don't think the heavy stuff will be coming down for quite a while!

If the tracking # has a letter in front of it try putting the # in w/o it.
That works for me sometimes, don't know why???

  • Here is my recent reply to a request about a package sold on eBay. The insurance was issued for $1700. I only mention the amount to put this response in prospective.

    Date: 08/21/2007
    My Name:
In response to your request dated 08/13/2007, we regret to inform you that we were unable to locate any delivery information in our records regarding your item number 2305 0270 00013322 3829.
If you require additional assistance, please take this receipt to your local Post Office or postal representative.

    Sincerely,
    United States Postal Service

Seems for $1700 they would know something. I sent this Priority, Signature Confirmation, and Insured!!! I will also say that the intended party HAS RECEIVED the package and did leave feedback, which is the only way I knew the package got where it was going. I guess a good conclusion to a potentially bad situation.

  • UPS gives a accurate tracking number. While they may not insure coins they provide you with all the information
you need.If you have a paypal dispute UPS can give you all the info online to give to paypal.Paypal
does not care if you have insurance or not.

  • No.You file a claim with UPS and you don't get a chargeback from paypal because you have proof you
    shipped the coin.

Insurance protects the seller not the buyer. If the you ship a coin via UPS to a buyer and the coin gets lost the buyer will get his money back and UPS will deny your insurance claim because they don't insure coins. End result the buyer gets his money back and your out the coin.

  • I admit i have never filed a claim with UPS over a lost coin but where does it say they
    do not insure coins?
  • Anybody else ever had this problem?

Technically speaking, USPS does not offer tracking. It is Delivery Confirmation only which is totally dependent upon someone actually scanning the bar code and updating the status. The only tracking that can actually be done is on registered packages and even then only USPS employees with the proper access can track registered packages.

  • Had to file a claim with UPS on a roll of very nice BU Morgans I sold in April. They did insure the package and knew they were coins. I furnished a receipt at the point of mailing and insuring. If that is against there policy they accepted the package at a UPS store and made good on the insurance this time. Fortunately the seller was patient while I waited nearly a month to collect then reimburse him.
The package was sent with instruction for signature delivery. The delivery man left it on the stoop (his story) where it turned up missing. I have sold and shipped less than 50 items this year with one stolen and the other delayed with no info from the shipper (USPS mentioned above).
Insurance does indeed protect the seller and the transaction overall.

I haven't look at all the post, but I know that a package would be hard to track on its way to the destination. The package is only scanned twice. When it's sent and when it's delivered.

You can ship a parcel worth up to $50,000, but you can only insure up $25,000. You need to have another source of insurance.

  • I must be the only one who HASN'T had a problem with USPS Registered. The tracking number always has registered valid after a day or so and has always shown delivery after receipt of the package. I've sent nearly 200 packages that way.

You wish! To beat a chargeback, you have to show proof of DELIVERY, not proof of shipping. Just a few months ago I lost a CB for that very reason--gave PayPal the tracking info, it showed the coin as undelivered, so PayPal gave the guy his money back. Fortunately the coin was insured, so I got my money back from USPS. If I had shipped UPS, I would have been screwed.

You are correct that USPS tracking shows that I have the package, after I have the package. That is very consistent.

That's only to appease PayPal. The credit card company wants to see proof of shipping, not proof of delivery. In fact, you'll even have to prove you shipped within one business day of receiving payment to avoid trouble.

So? You pay me with PayPal, don't receive your item, and initate a chargeback (either through your credit card, or through PayPal--it is irrelevant). PayPal immediately places a hold on my funds and does not release them until *PayPal* is satisfied. Even if your credit card company is willing to accept proof of shipping rather than proof of delivery, it's PayPal that has the hold on my money, not your credit card company. And you know what PayPal is going to say? I do--this happened to me eight months ago. I'll quote it for you:

"After careful consideration of the evidence provided in the case detailed below, we have completed our investigation and decided in favor of the buyer. Under terms of our User Agreement, we have debited the following amount from your PayPal account as a refund to the buyer: $197.25 USD.

If you have proof of shipment information that shows that this item was delivered, you may appeal this decision. To do so, log into your PayPal account, click the Resolution Center link at the top of the page, and then click the Appeal button next to the case."
