Does PCGS grade coins as PL (prooflike)???
<< <i>but will the 50% be offset by being high graded in a TPG plastic? or would original cell packaging lead a buyer to think that he would be getting a "fresh" coin that maybe he could get into TPG high grade? food for thought >>
i think though a problem could be that there is NO GUARANTEE That the dollar in the cheerios packaging is the Pattern Dollar... it is just assumed that they all are... but maybe some xray scanning from a TPG to determine would be cool!

I agree that the original packaging Sacs will be worth far more eventually.
I have been searching for one for almost 2 years and have found one! That one was slabbed as a 67 recently.
So it seems they are fast disappearing.
I predict that the owners of conventional rarities like the silly 1804 dollars and 1913 nickels will soon be selling them to have a CHEERIOS dollar for their collection.
Beauty, history, rarity, what more could there BE?
I can recall when they were realizing about $2000 on ebay!! If only I had picked some up then.
<< <i>wow... from that picture??? i hope it looks good when you get it.
nice coinage though!

you are just glad it did not sell for $2500
what do you think yours "discovery" would get now????

<< <i>I think if Spacemonkey crossed it to PCGS and they kept the pedigree it would be worth close to 12K to 13K.
i have been giving SERIOUS thought to that and just dont know what to do!
enjoy yours eCoinquest... i hope it looks great!

Counterfieting a Cheerios package wouldn't take much ingenuity... I'd go for TPG.
I wonder what it would be worth if a metal detector said there was a sac in it? I Got to get that checked.
<< <i>The day will come when these bring a 50% premium in the original Cheerios packaging. >>
That's why I have one of each!
TD
on these boards, but that is just me.
yes it is a neat coin but you essentially just paid 11G for 1.01.
what i think is a pretty darn ugly coin that never really saw circulation
and is a rather dismal failure/unpopular/etc..
but it is the key to the series i suppose.
Nice coin though
YOU COULD HAVE ALL 4 COINS BELOW FOR LESS THAN YOU SPENT ON ONE SAC OUT OF A CEREAL BOX.
PCGS PR67, $2100
PCGS MS65RD, $1600
PCGS MS64, $3900
PCGS MS67, $3200
<< <i>That definitely goes on my Top 10 crazy a** modern buys list. I suppose if you're in it to flip for more cash, that's cool. Otherwise, there are sooooo many beautiful classic coins out there that could be had for 11K. It just makes me cry inside when someone spends that much on something so silly/modern.
don't be prejudice though, just because it ain't up your a$$ey
You only need to find one buyer that knows how to grade to make the sale.

For some folks, it's not "either/or". They can have their sacs and classics too.
PS - Take the cereal box to your local radiologist to see what's inside.
I agree that there are many amazing classics to be had for 11k but I am looking at this coin as an investment to make more money for the classics.
I guess the only thing left to say is Congratulations.
PMac; I don't think PCGS will recognize cheerios sac as First strike but that sure would be amazing if they would.
Maybe I will take it up with them.
Yes I believe that this is one of the rarest 21st century coins minted.

Of course without ignorant attitudes like this all the moderns would be
so common they wouldn't be any fun to collect. Instead there's a whole
world of scarce and rare coins available to anyone who is willing to put
in the time, effort, and money to find them.
How anyone can believe it's OK to just "flip" anything for a profit but stu-
pid to collect coins is way beyond me.

cladking,
flipping the coin for a profit is understandable to me, and that appears to be eCoinquest's intention. But I do think it's stupid to collect (as in, collect them to keep because you just love the look of them) modern coins because it generally has little to do with aesthetics or impressive designs since modern coins don't have these things going for them. Of course that's just my opinion. I realize you don't share it and I respect that. Regardless of what I might write, I know some will continue to be happy with modern pocket-change in their coin collections. Modern coin collecting is great for those that don't put a premium on eye-appeal.

Spacemonkey, that Lincoln is great, and an exception because it's so beautifully toned. Indeed, I have a couple modern dimes with killer toning.
But yes, all of the others you posted can't hold a candle to most classic designs.
Again, just my opinion.
<< <i>Lordy, people are very touchy around here.

opinions are absolutely no problem... but bashing is different which is how i take your comments. i like some classics, i hate some classics.... i like some moderns, i hate some moderns... but there is enough to go around for all... no need to make people feel inadequate for their tastes... all in all it's a friggin piece a metal.
Ask a serious art collector what they think about our little classic round discs of metal... most will probably laugh at you or think your nuts.

I can't make you feel inadequate about anything, you're doing that all by yourself.
Collect what makes you happy! If that means you're collecting Wisconsin quarters in MS70, more power to you!
Feel free to bash toned Morgans or classic seated coinage if you like, I wouldn't take it personally.
At the very least, I don't think it's my obligation to applaud someone else's bad taste in coins. So instead of just writing nothing at all, I choose to comment. I mean come on, if your idea of a cool coin is the quarter you got back in change at lunch, you need to expand your horizons! I just can't resist bashing those moderns!

My hope is that with enough bashing, modern collectors may some day gain the insights and thoughtfulness necessary to appreciate classic coins so they no longer buy pocket change with their hard earned pocket change.
It's just a dream.
