Hmmmm. Good thread. I guess it would be this small eagle early dollar. Not the most expensive coin...but the one that would cause me the most pain to part with.

I just picked this up at the ANA. Right now, this is way too nice of a coin and can't get over the fact that I bought it, but I'm certainly glad I did. image

Very tough to decide on this one. I have five to ten coins that I would never sell. I'll pick this one right now:

How about a Buffalo Nickel from a Mercury Dime Collector?

This coin is the first coin gift I received from my wife (circa 1977).

It is not the highest graded coin in my set, it is not the most expesive coin in my set, but it has the most meaning and it is a really cool 1937-D 3-Leg. Thanks LINDA!

This is not the "Centerpiece" but it may be the most visually appealing coin from a box of twenty that is almost closer to a box of forty. The pic is a bit weak in terms of doing the coin justice. Coin is from Pinnacle in a PCGS Proof 66 holder.

While most people would say it is my NGC53 1874 CC Dime I would go with this raw little gem:

This is pretty special to me....

My Grandfather collected coins... My Father grew into it... he always went searching in his pocket change and in the 50's found one of these... it was given to me and I had it "made"... sort of being handed the collecting torch!

    Thanks Gramps!

I'm more of a Seated / Bust / Early Copper collector, but this particular Barber 10c has to be the single most appealing coin in my collection.

    From the book;
    Engraver, William Barber
size, 57mm (large examples) 38mm (smaller examples
Striking of the Centennial medal commenced (Philly mint) after October 31,1874. These were sold at the following prices, bronze $3,
white medal,$1, copper gilt, $3. It is difficult to be percise about the numbers struck.
There were about 7,000 large bronze struck while only about 2,100 copper pieces(for gilding) were produced. Only 583 large white metalare recorded as being made, all in the 1877 fiscal year.

Interesting to note that the Four medal set is not mentioned in the book the writer goes on to note 9 in silver left the mint.
The book also mentions gold piece struck weighing 2323.65 grains. Two or three gold pieces , someone correct me on the number struck in gold . All the book says is Chief Coiner A. Louden Snowden caused this piece to be struck in a clandestine mannerfor himself or a friend.
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly."

Hey Steve, I'm sure there's a special meaning behind that coin. Thanks for sharing it and strong sentimental value will always outweigh monetary value IMO.image

My centerpiece would probably have to be this coin. Not the most valuable, not the most sentimental, and not the best condition-wise; but I really love the way it looks.

Not my most valuable, but other than some Morgans, this was my first MS coin from the 1800's. Purchased in 1971 for $95, slabbed as an MS65 in 1988.

...and here's the centerpiece of my clipped type collection (this was a much harder choice to make):
