Anyone out there spending 2 dollar bills?

I talked to a guy at work and he said he had gotten 2 dollar bills at the bank and was spending them at a local store for a laugh. I didn't realize you could even get 2's at the bank but I'll add them to my bag of tricks if they have some. Anyone have any good stories to share with spending them?

The last bachelor party I went to the group of us put about 200 of them to good use - let's just say they have replaced the single as the bill of choice where the dollar coin simply just doesn't work. Other than local auctions, I haven't seen one in circulation in 15 years.

not sure why they dont circulate more than they do.
they still print them and are not scarce or rare.
we have a metal recycling place here that advertises
that they will pay you in two dollar bills.

i see them as collectible as todays golden dollar coins.
fun to collect but, thats about it.

I love spending them and watching the expression on the cashier's face as they decide where to put it in the cash register. Priceless.

while many banks don't normally have two dollar bills available,
some will let you order a strap or two if you are a customer .
pretty neat if you get the crisp ones and just peel them off
at the grocery or gas station . after you've pumped gas ,
they have no choice but to accept them ..

i ask for them at the bank and then spend them.
the tellers never seem to mind giving me what they have.
i do not ask for them to check other teller's drawers tho!

i think that is sorta rude and one should prepare with the bank
    if you need quantity.

My Wife saves them and seems to be building a hoard. If anyone wants to get rid of there, a buck for a buck, er, 2 bucks for 2 bucks......it would go to a newbie's collection/hoardimage

Allright newb here, I hear about ordering ASEs and other things a lot. Do you just go in and see a normal bank rep and order them just like that.

    Thanks

At the last coin show I attended one dealer had a pack of 200 he was using for change, so I got 10 dollars worth and spent 4 on lunch and 1 at wal mart. I have yet to find someone who doesn't accept them as money.

I get bricks ($2000) and check for stars, ladders, repeaters etc. and spend the rest.

It'll probably be like when I asked for 20 rolls of half dollars. The teller rolled her eyes and made me take the entire box they would have to order. I'd like to see it used more, getting a fist full of dollars in change takes up a lot of space in the wallet.

I thought about that. 2 years ago, I got a strap of new $2 bills....I didn't ebay though...I handed out about 10-15 as tips and such. Kept the rest for some strange reason.

I took a strap to Aruba in July. The locals loved getting deuces. The US dollar is as well accepted as the Aruban Florin. They also really liked the new Presidential coins. Only had $50 in those. Would leave tips, pay for cabs, pool boy tips etc.

They don't circulate because they confuse your typical cashier who doesn't haven't a clue where to put them!

    I've told this before . . .

I get $200 packs from the Credit Union. Used one at an Arctic Circle Drive Inn locally to pay for two brown-topper cones at the drive-through. It took forever . .so I craned my neck back and could see the teen burger-flipper and the manager on the phone, describing the bill while holding it up to the light. They finally came back with my (now semi-melted) brown toppers and change and confessed they had called the FBI (didn't have any idea the Secret Service was probably the correct government entity) to determine if I was passing "funny money".

The FBI assured them it was real.

I spend 'em whenever I get 'em. Unfortunately, despite all the "Taco Bell" stories, I've never had one refused.

I spend them when I can get them which I find difficult. I find halves difficult to get also, but dollar coins are pretty readily available. They seem to flow into banks by themselves.

Fifty years ago twos were very common in New England and halves seemed to be. Silver dollars were the difficult ones to get then.
I best expand on the twos back then. They were only common in actual circulation during race season. A few would show up at other times. The banks were always loaded with them.

I used to get my allowance strictly in 2 Dollar bills, I was a werid kid though and would pick stiff that most people never used I also occasionally wanted Dollar coins. It was fun but, the novelty wears off after a few people call their manager to see if its real.

The only time I've seen $2 bills used in circulation was when I was a cashier at a drug store back in high school (1990s). I had a good ol' boy come in and pay with a handful of them. I asked, "Gee, where'd you get all of those $2 bills?" and he just smirked at me and said, "Strip club".

Its late and I didn't read every post so sorry if someone already went over my idea.

I work in a restaurant waiting tables for a day job. I know that most of the other servers I work with go nuts over $2 bills or anything else that has way too much of them out there (i.e. bi-cent. quarters in F-EF grade, any saq's. or prez bux, etc... They all seem to be putting them up for their kids, grandkids and the like.

At first I tried to explain to them that 1976 series $2 bills were issued for around twenty years and billions were printed in that time. No one ever really seemed to listen though and they still love them. It works out great when I want to unload a bunch of prez bux. Just bring a handful into work. On the upside I'm known at work as the weird coin guy who likes to go thru all four cash reg. drawers daily.

So everyone brings me their find first to see if I'll offer them anything extra for it. Got a nice 1963a star Barr note last week from another employee and only paid double face for it.

Anyway I'd suggest if you eat out much leave appropriate tip for the meal in em and if the servers are anything like the ones I work with then it works out well for you to get rid of them and happy waiter/waitress.

Someone on this forum, a few years back, went to Taco Bell in a local mall with only a fifty and a two dollar bill. They refused the fifty. When he tried to pay for his beverage with the two, they threatened to call the police. I hope whoever that was is still active here.

They know just where to put them-- under the cash tray with the $100's. Or under the checks in the spot on the end.

I had the same thing happen at Sonic Drive In when the new $100 bills came out sometime in the mid ninties. And they did call the cops. Both the car-hop and the manager thought that the 100 I had handed them was fake.

I have a friend renting a loft from me. She's this hot little filipino number that works at a strip club. She pays the rent in $2.00 bills because they use them at the club she works. I get like over 300 of these bills a month from her. I spend some and send the rest to the bank. They usually smell real nice.

I used to get a 100 of them at a time and spend them over town. After a while I stopped because the merchants just kept returning them to the bank so I was circulating the same bills over and over.

The last time I received a $2 bill in change was over 30 years ago when the bicentennial design was first issued. It makes more sense to use them than 2 $1 bills. Merchants don't want them, so the banks don't order them. Maybe we should reduce the size of our currency again so more denominations will fit in a cash register drawer (assuming the trays are easily replaced).

I ask for them at the local bank, sometime get $20 worth at a time. Like Mr earlygold, my wife hoards them for some reason. They are fun to spend to see the confused look on the cashiers face. At work in a large office area, I occasionaly put them in the box for the coffee fund, I have seen the coffee fund manager get excited over these and a few Ike's that I put in. A local coin dealer that is known as a rat among other dealers sells them for $3.
