I think you being the seller should give feed back 1st. He did his job by paying and if you do your's just as good he or she will give you yours. That is just me from day 1 you pay I give feed back. image

I disagree. Once the buyer shows that they are satisfied with the transaction and show this by leaving positive feedback, then the seller should leave feedback afterwards to complete the transaction.

seller should leave feedback first when they are satisfied the payment is totally secure.

anything else is feedback hostage taking and don't we know how some sellers love that!

Oh, happy happy joy joy. It's been a whole few days since we've had this "seller should leave feedback as soon as they are paid" argument here. This is about as futile as debating religion or politics.

The debate on this will always be discussed. Me personally, I don't leave feedback as a seller until the buyer either leaves me positive or lets me know he is happy with the purchase. I don't think the transaction is complete until the buyer is happy and acknowledges receipt. If a buyer was unhappy and wanted to return, I would oblige and leave positive for that as well as long as the return was within stated guidelines in the sale. As a buyer, I leave feedback once I get the coin, regardless of whether or not the seller has given me feedback (at least I'm consistent).

There is no right answer, many people here agree with that statement (probably most), but not me. I am just a bit cautious and want to be able to return inappropriate feedback if needed. Being that most people are honest, if you leave feedback first as a seller, you will only get burnt on the rare occasion, but it will happen.

Why? I like watching the same old arguments hashed out again and again. In the same sense that one can't keep their eyes off of a train wreck, anyway .

I have no problem leaving feedback first, I just have always thought that waiting to make sure the coin arrived safe and sound was the best way to go. As for this being an old issue raised many times here on the forum, I haven't seen it on here before and just wanted to find out how others feel about it. The majority seems to favor the seller leaving feedback first.

Exactly. And I'd add that a buyer "acknowledging receipt" does NOT have to come in the form of leaving feedback. Having said that, more often than not I leave feedback as soon as I'm paid, depending on the history of the buyer. Seems like a reasonable middle ground to me.

I agree that Sellers should leave feedback as soon as they are satisfied that appropriate payment is received. Most do but some don't.

Question: As a buyer, if the seller does not leave feedback, do you hold off on providing feedback as well or do you provide normal feedback.

I have not had an issue with this as a seller since I send emails to buyer thanking them for payment and also informing them when I ship the coin.

As a seller, I leave feedback (positive) upon cleared payment, I include: (1) ease of transaction/communication, (2) speed of payment & (3) date I shipped item... along with a "thank-you".

If there should be a problem later, it can be addressed in a follow-up to the feedback (if necessary)... never had an unresolved problem. If someone feels a need to leave neutral/negative feedback after the transaction is completed - I would prefer to NOT look like a "retaliatory" seller, but rather, an honest one.

As a buyer, once a seller has my money - my end of the transaction is complete. I should have total say over the feedback once I receive the item. If I like it, I leave a positive. If I don't like it, I start negotiating for a return or other consideration. But, the seller has my money, right? At that point, the seller should have nothing over me, such as feedback. If he hasn't already given me a positive for prompt payment, then he is using blackmail, period.

As a seller, I give a positive feedback as soon as the funds are secure. I am open to any developments, and should expect to stand behind my item. If I already got the money, why the heck wouldn't I give a good feedback, anyway? Holding back a positive feedback from a buyer after they have made good on the payment is ridiculous.

Do I agree with that feedback? Yes. Do others agree? Not always.

When I sell, which isn't often, when I ship out, I put a note in that says something like "Please let me know when received and that all is well so that I can leave feedback".
It is up to the recipient to decide what to do at that point.....I have had people not let me know at all, leave me immediate feedback when received, and let me know it was received and I left feedback first.

I have never sold on ebay but to me it doesn't matter if the seller leaves it first or I as the buyer do. The problem I have is that about 50 percent of the sellers I have left feedback for never bothered to return the favor. If the seller doesn't want to leave it till the buyer does that's fine but at least do the buyer the courtesy of same once they do.

I wholeheartedly disagree as the transaction is not complete from the sellers side until he/she knows that the buyer is satisfied with the transaction.

What if the seller left positive feedback and then the buyer decided he wanted to return the item AND have the seller pay the return shipping charges?? If the seller wanted to protect his feedback, he;d have to comply or get an unjustly deserved negative from some screwy buyer.

For the OP, his buyer obviously felt the pressing need to criticize the seller's policies with reverse-positive feedback which I think is childish and ridiculous. Thats what the email aspect of these transactions is for.....................

No kidding! At least a month.

I almost never sell coins on ebay, but I do sell other misc. crap. My personal policy, as a seller, is to leave feedback as soon as I know that the buyer has received the item and is satisfied with it. I do not know this until they leave me a feedback telling me so, or send me an email telling me so. Either works for me.

I leave feedback once I'm satisfied that the transaction is complete. However, I generally feel the seller should be the first to leave feedback although I do understand both sides of the arguement.

As a buyer I really don't care whether I get feedback or not. Having said that I do notice that forum members do blast buyers on occasion and everyone and their grandmother blocks said offender without any attempt to see if there is another side to the story. This seems to be a more egregioous practice than arguing who should leave feedback first. It doesn't matter to me unless the seller waits to see what I have to say so he can reply in kind. That is crap.

As a buyer on ebay, after the first 20 feedbacks i don't really care anymore if i get one or not. As for buying something from the seller , i read carefully to there feedbacks as to what the buyers are saying. With that being said, the feedback is more of a protection for the future buyers and the seller who are doing good work on ebay.

Since when is buyer's satisfaction a part of the buyer's responsibility? A buyer's only responsibility is to pay for the item. That is only what the feedback is for.

<< <i>What if the seller left positive feedback and then the buyer decided he wanted to return the item AND have the seller pay the return shipping charges?? If the seller wanted to protect his feedback, he;d have to comply or get an unjustly deserved negative from some screwy buyer. >>

If the auction description describes the return policy adequately, this is not an issue. Also, if the description is honest and accurate and photos are good, there are usually no issues. Issues only arise when sellers omit pertinent information or mislead buyers whether intentional or not. In these cases, it is the seller's fault, but regardless the buyer performs his duty by paying quickly.

The only right answer is for the Buyer to leave feedback first, then the seller responds with positive feedback.

Think about all the problems that could arise if the seller leaves feedback first.

I really think it's a no brainer. Buyer first , then seller.

I completely agree with this... if I were to receive the FB left to the OP of this thread, I would immediately put this ebayer on my blocked list.

Recently, I had about 30 auctions...all the coins went at very low prices...everyone got a good deal... about 2 weeks after confirmed delivery ( I checked on the USPS website)...no word from 8 or 9 of the winners...

I always email the winners to confirm payment and let them know when the coin ships...I put a card in with each shipment, thanking them for their purchase and asking that they let me know when the coin arrives...

They don't have to leave FB 1st...a simple email will do...

To me, to not do so, is the equivalent of walking up to me at a show, grabbing a coin, throwing money down on my table, grunting and walking away...

As a matter of fact, anyone who does will not show me the simple courtesy of letting me know they received their coin and whether or not they are pleased...IS NOT welcome to any of my future auctions and is added to my blocked list...

    ...but, hey, that's just me...

I agree 100 percent with him. The seller, once paid, should be required to leave feedback first. The buyer has done their job in prompt payment, everything else is up to the seller. The seller's feedback should come after the buyer has received the goods.

I completely disagree with you. Once I pay you, I've done all that is required of me. The faster I pay you the better I've done my job. I will leave you feedback when I receive the item I purchased. The feedback will be based on whether the object is as described and the speed with which I received my purchase.

If there is a problem and you handle it properly, I will give you glowing positive feedback for manning up and fixing the problem.

However, the rule is seller leaves feedback first. What sellers are trying to do is cover their butt from getting negged. The best way to do that is to leave feedback first and complete their side of the transaction in a timely manner with courtesy.

I'm happy to let a seller know that I am pleased and consider the transaction closed. I've done it many times. However, I will never leave feeback for a seller first.

I agree that the seller should leave feedback first, but I care more if the seller lets me know when the coin is shipped and what the tracking number is. Most REAL businesses due this as standard practice.

And, once I have sent the, as advertised, coin to you, I am done with the transaction as well, right? I believe so. The rest of it is called COMMON COURTESY.
Now, go back and re-read my full post originally. I give feedback first and I am fine with that as a seller...ONCE the buyer lets me know it is received and all is good.

The part you quoted is my comment about the "expect feedback as a buyer asap". That, to me, means as soon as buyer pays.

Looking at your post, you agree with me on buyer letting seller know it is received...not sure the reason for the rest of your post and "disagreeing" with me, when you go and state the same thing I did.

I do that, too. Then after a week or so of waiting, I usually succumb to leaving feedback and leaving a positive. After all , the buyer has done nothing wrong. His money is paid first and he has to wait for the item, then he has to approve it. Although I don't believe ebay has an approval system, the feedback system is flawed inasmuch as either way a person is sort of held hostage. Both buyer and seller are in a peculiar way there. Some people never leave feedback and they are those who probably don't care about it either. It's important that my customers are satisfied, but it isn't imperative that they tell the world about it.

It's simple, you both leave feedback after the entire transaction is completed and both of you are satisfied (or dissatisfied). Not one side should necessarily give feedback first. I gauge it for every transaction.
