    I once had a 2006w $50 MS69 FS listed with Best Offers of $1300 $ $1400.
That was right after I saw one sell for $1999.99! The auction ended without
a buyer and I sold it to a private collector who inquired shortly afterward.
There seems to be no demand for these anymore. Not right now anyway.

THE SKY IS FALLING, BAIL OUT!!!! Even at my age I realize the potential of these 2006-W Platinums and refuse to be spooked out. I might not see it but my 3 kids sure will.

In essence, if the seller is willing to sell the $50 for $1495, he should be starting
    the $10 at $395.

I made the mistake of watching Shop-At-Home last night and sat there listening to all
the hype while they blew out 2007w NGC MS69 Gold sets at $2499. Then, to see the
plats sell so low on Ebay really takes the cake! So it appears most household "collectors"
watch TV than do the bay! I need my own TV Station and a truckload of "limited mintage"
coins! And...now is the time to buy!!!!!

One thing to consider is that this seller left the word "Eagle" out of the actual title of the auction. This means that eveyone who looks for an item like this and searches on the word "eagle" would miss it.

I tried it to verify this. Sure enough, include "eagle" in the search and this item doesn't come up.

I personally use keyword searches to find stuff. I don't just browse categories. So, it's possible that the title wording left a lot of potential customers unaware of the auction.

Modern Coin Mart is selling a 2006 W MS-69 $50 for $1385 so I'd agree that yes, the market is soft on these right now. The big upward revision of mintages, I think, has hurt these in the short run--and the fact that anyone who really wants one probably already has one. I feel lucky I bought at the top of the market. My family motto is "Buy high, sell low"! But really, I think that long-term these are going to do very well and I plan to hold mine for my kids...

If you spend money, spend it on money... at least when you're done, you'll have money.

And this, my friends, is the main reason that I like Plats, AGEs and silver (in its many forms).

The Plat market is weak, but it is also thin. That means that price moves will be erratic, because the transactions are fewer. The biggest factor right now is that "loud sucking sound" from the direction of the U.S. Mint, draining liquidity from all directions. That could be bad, but could also be a good thing, when we look back a few years from now.

    Folks-
I was under the impression that the "big upward revision of mintages" were UNAUDITED figures. Is this correct? Some on the boards said that when the figures are finally resolved that the final mintage numbers should approach what they were before the revision. Does anyone have any info on this?
    Thanks.

Even after the big upward revision of mintages, numbers are still very low and I expect prices will recover after the big sell out of 2007 Plats. I bought my $100 2006-W Unc PCGS FS at a reasonable price and already put it away.

image How is listing coins in a public auction with a huge bidder pool ruining the value of coins. It seems to me it is establishing the real market value of the coins.

Supply & Demand! The bidder pool is extremely shallow right now while supply is great since
sellers are unloading these like diarhea after a glass of colon blow so they can quickly acquire
cash for the next round of flips. The only ones buying these are the ones that have the money
to buy these at near melt value and put them away long term. The supply is getting greater
lowering the value instead of lower increasing the value.

I just love it when guys use an auction that has noit even ended yet to try and prove a point. Just because a coin is LISTED at below it's market high DOES NOT mean it will end there.

Want to prove to me your point? Show me some ENDED auctions that bare out these facts.

I saw a Mantle rookie card at .99 once too. It ended at 21k

    FLBuff...I make that same mistake.

The Gold $50 is the top dog in the Gold series, while the $100 is king of the Plats!!
