I'm sorry you lost, however you fought the good fight. Thank you for doing that. I hope you will consider another run in the future.
As for the results, the "reform" candidates did well although I am not sure they have a working majority. I hope I am incorrect.
<< <i>My condolences, Michael. At least there is a wind of change in the air. >>
I kinda knew that any victory for me was a long shot, at best. But at least the regime is officially voted OUT!

The pro-reformers are the majority - hip hip, hooray!!!!!!!!
I am sorry you didn't get elected to the board. But I do think YOU and I and a lot of members won. Now, let's hope the big three will be able to lead a reconciliation among the board. I see it as at least 5-4 for the "new guys" Thanks for being the FIRST to let us all know.

You put up a very good fight, and posted very respectable vote numbers when compared to some of the individuals that had similar numbers. I appreciate how you have kept us informed throughout the process. I feel that with more experience and name recognition (which you have certainly earned through this election), that you will definitely sit on the board in the future. Now that the reform candidates have won handily, Milwaukee should be interesting.

<< <i>My condolences, Michael. At least there is a wind of change in the air. Those board members who will "incumbents" during the next election should take heed and work to bring harmony to the ANA. >>
They can do that best by following the lead of the new members with the highest vote counts.
I'd say this qualifies as a mandate.
In any case, I will now renew my ANA membership.
<< <i>Ok, there were a total of 41,832 votes for Governors. Each person voting was supposed to vote for no more than seven, so that means that only 5,976 members bothered to vote?
In any case, I will now renew my ANA membership. >>
I doubt that 100% of those who actually received their ballot voted. But 0% of those who didn't get theirs voted.

<< <i>Well, six out of the seven I voted for won.

I had five of the seven.

It's too bad the Presidential and VP votes were not counted. It would be interesting to see if their totals were higher or lower than the average votes of the winners.
Too bad Tony didn't get in. He's a Tucson local, and a great guy.
Now we'll have to see what games get played to kick every one off!

<< <i>Thanks for posting. Sorry you didn't make it. Chet and Cliff did very well. I like this slate, especially with Ed and Walter in there. Joe Boling is a great asset as well. I liked Radford's opinions too. Wendell's a great guy as well.

"Hi, outgoing Board, My name is Walter, remember me?" (dream sequence).
<< <i>Sorry you didn't make it, but I'm sure your efforts helped the pro-reform candidates clean house, and for that I think the membership of the ANA owes you a big thanks. >>
Ditto!
ps. 23% voter turnout is pitiful.

<< <i>Are there vote totals for Pres. and vice pres.? Even though they ran unopposed I'd like to see how many votes they got (or didn't get). >>
They each got one vote - and I am not joking on this.

<< <i>Any bets that Cipoletti is working on his resume?
Don't have to bet - he is probably doing that now that the regime is no more!
<< <i>Well, six out of the seven I voted for won. >>
<< <i>Any bets that Cipoletti is working on his resume?
I don't know. It might be more like, "The Empire Strikes Back".
1. I am happy that 5 of the 7 governors I voted for won.
2. I am very unhappy that less than 25% of the membership voted. That says a lot about the organization and what it will take to build it up. If this election, and the publicity around it, couldn't cause members to vote, what can?
3. I do think the vote says something about how the voting members felt where the ANA is moving. The bylaws do need to be revised, but it should be the new board that does it.
4. COMMUNICATION with the membership must be #1 priority and secretcy must be minimized.
5. The fact that 3 incumbents and 1 past incumbent did not get elected this time DOES say something that the President and Vice President better listen to.
6. It might make a lot of sense for the new board members to sit in with the old board during BOTH executive and open sessions in Milwaukee. It would make sense for the ANA to web cast the Milwaukee meetings just like they did the special meetings in Charlotte. What better way to reconnect with the membership than by letting the membership see and hear what goes on.
JMHO.

<< <i>Boy, would I like to be a fly on the wall at their first board meeting! >>
Yes, things will probably be a bit ackward at first considering all that has gone down in the past two years.
It does send a strong message that members are unhappy with the direction of the ANA and want to see changes.

Yes, from Horton and Finner.
Now that the election is over I am hopeful we (the ANA) can put all this conflict behind us and move forward with a clean slate. Of course, I do recognize that some personnel changes may have to be made and I hope those decisions are made swiftly one way or the other.

Yes, I'm glad to see Herbert and Kagin gone. The complaint that was filed against Kagin probably hurt him even though he won the
complaint I think it raised as lot of suspicions about favortism anyway. Herbert came across as just a grouchy old curmudgeon in his
few comments about the election.

Bingo. I think Herbert really shot himself in the foot with his well-publicized comments. I had held him in very high esteem until then, and he dropped several notches after that.
<< <i>Yes, from Horton and Finner. >>
Yes. To be fair, Barry Stuppler's remarks were gracious and complimentary, and I hope they were sincere.

"Cipoletti said 33 forms were marked in contradictory fashion or were blank. He also said these forms would be available for the press to view at the ANA convention in Milwaukee."
To serve what purpose? To demonstrate that his opponents are buffons or something?
Never got my ballot, and thus this form. Does the form identify the member's name or number?

<< <i>Is Krause the one who resigned from the ANA over the naming of the museum?
Jerry >>
Yes, that was for a short time until the executive director met with him face to face to talk about the situation and he then recinded the resignation.

Well, this was an advisory vote, and really I think the comments are more important than the yes/no vote on the bylaws. Presumably some of these may have had comments about what to do concerning the bylaws. I'm not sure what value there is in making those forms available to the press, though. Capturing the comments is probably good enough. And there's little need to add name or ANA member number to these.
<< <i>"Cipoletti said 33 forms were marked in contradictory fashion or were blank... >>
Did people write "Bite me, Cipoletti, you're goin' down!" on their ballots?
<< <i>...He also said these forms would be available for the press to view at the ANA convention in Milwaukee." >>
OK, I guess not. Nice thought, though.
Condolences to Mike D., but this still has to feel like a victory for you. As for the < 25% turnout, I will leave you with a quote from Samuel Adams. "It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds."

I hasten to add that I have nothing against Kagin; of all the incumbents, he's one that I think was acceptable (though I did not vote for him). Herbert, though, came across as a real jerk in his CW comments. I wonder if he is kicking himself; perhaps if he hadn't been such an arse, he'd have been re-elected. After all, he lost by only 607 votes.
By the way, it's interesting that the 4 candidates I'd classify as incumbents--Herbert, Kagin, Bourne, and Fitts--average a tad more than 2,000 votes each. That's not very many votes for incumbents (or, in Fitts' case, a former member and spouse of current member) since incumbents have a natural tendency to attract votes in elections .
