    Nice turn of phrase but I only use the medical definition of "bifurcated" which is an
    organ or structure divided into distinct mirror images. Hence it stops at two.

    Sorry, but this is not true. There are numerous arterial trifucrcations, including the arterial branching below the knee, and I use this word at work nearly every day.

    I stand corrected.

    Google was pretty unhelpfull for this. I'm guessing these are irregular rather than a branching of three which are like mirror images of one another (such as in the carotid trifurcation)?

    So whether you are forking or furcating.... you are branching...

    "Trifurcated".................., I like the sound of that word. It sounds very.......................impressive, significant and important.

    Just like the word "Consortium" sounds very................................ impressive, significant and impressive. Used in a sentence it sounds even better............i.e., "I consorted with a group of professional numismatists yesterday". Oooooooooooohhhhh, it just sends chills up and down my spine to think I have been "consorting" and maybe even have been invited to join a "consortium".

    "Bifurcation" also has a specific meaning in the world of lawsuits and lawyers. It means when a legal case is split into two distinct phases or parts for pretrial or trial purposes.

    In real estate litigation where claims are pending that deal with issues of:

    a. who owns real property; and

    b. money damages

    it many times happens that the issues regarding ownership of property are litigated and decided first and only after these issues are cleared up do you then deal with the remaining issues of who owes money to who.
