Question (BST board related)

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,789 ✭✭✭✭✭
What do folks think about people who use the BST board to sell and list an email in their post, but they don't have the PM enabled, much less any type of profile?

I can kind of understand some folks not wanting a profile enabled (those are garbage anyway as you can put in anything you want there) but if you are selling, I like to use PMs (easier and I am lazy) rather than emails. Sure, some of the migrate to emails (pictures, etc), but that is how I feel....wondering if I am alone in this feeling or how others feel.....?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Yeah, but you ignore everybody over there image

(I ignore the known PM-enabled people as well, when they sell....)

  • If the PM is disabled I would post on the thread and request them to PM me with further details, if they did not respond via PM I would not deal with them any further.

I have dealt with folks over there by email only before, and I never had a problem with it. I can understand hesitating to do so -- no danger of your PM address falling into the hands of spammers, that kind of thing, but I don't think it has ever happened to me here ...

The conventional etiquette is to use PM's & I am supportive of that, but not to the point of boycotting someone over it.

If people there don't know how to use the PM function, I have to question whether they're on the boards just for the BST board and nothing more. I regard them the same as spammers. Now, folks who I am familiar with, who prefer to use email, I'm fine with.

    No PM enabled, no deal!

In my opinion, if someone does not have their PM enabled then I think there is a good chance that they will not regularly visit this site, which means they are a hit-and-run seller, in my opinion, and I will not do business with them.

If they have PM off, odds are they are a forum newbie, which would make me hesitant to buy from them, anyway.

While I don't mind PMs, I check my email more often than I log in here.

Don't worry....even though your BST rant against a fellow forum member was poofed, I think most have seen you and few will buy from you image

    Wow! That's harsh, Clad!

Now, how do you feel about people on the BST forum who create a thread to hang another member and even posts PMs between the two.....but happens to leave out part of the PMs that don't make themselves look that good, and, attacks those that respond with "never had a problem with XXX"?

This is totally "ON TOPIC", and important to several forum members.

It is much better than any other "stellar" posts I've seen lately.

I like the PM's much better. Feel like I have better control over communication since I cant see my home email at work but can see private messages. Like you said it may gravitate to email but should start on PM.

"This is totally "ON TOPIC", and important to several forum members". Claychaser.

I agree with almost everything you said; me thinks this is important to a few more than several members.

I'm not sure that I understand why someone would be reluctant to buy from a newbie. I thought a newbie was someone new to the boards. What does that have to do with one's experience with coins? I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of people who have collected coins longer than they have been on this board.

I agree. Unfortunately some real talent has left/bammed, whatever.

Most like me are Newbs. We are indeeed extremely fortunate for the wealth of talent availiable on this board.

Just judge each post on it's merits or lack thereof.

I judge the posts not the # of post.

There are many still on this board from it's inception. I have found that those old timers, have and continue to willingly share thier enviable knowlege.

I can't recall a single instance that a Newb was not only treated with respect, but got his/her question answered or at least steered in the right direction.

Bottom line: I truly believe the overwhelming # of forum members have and will continue to help the Newbs, and the yn's. Tis a no brainer to me, it benifits our hobby. JMHO. jws
