In the second picture, wear is evident on the box and corners of the packs that could not have come while sitting in a case for years as advertised (downward creasing on the top of the box, e.g., when nothing would have existed to push it down). Indeed, the likelyhood exists that the packs were actually opened and replaced with inferior cards, as this seller has done it before (this site has the information: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=572374 this site connects his to his current user ID: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=581860).
Looking for Jonny Gomes cards, especially Triple Threads and printing plates. Will consider all cards, though. Got something? Contact me at c_u_l_1@yahoo.com

Absolutely agree. Even without knowing what I do about Gary from these boards, I would not shell out that kind of money on "unopened" material with the number of feedback comments he has stating, or suspecting, previous offerings have been searched. Especially since Paypal probably would not cover you if you won and opened the packs to discover they did not appear to be what was promised.

100%?
I suppose I should've paid a lot more attention to the feedback score. super.
Oh well. Good lesson to have learned.
I'll post again if the box is garbage.

The 'high bidder' will be saving the real high bidder over a grand. There is a 100% chance the box is resealed.

All Gary has to do is prove the account was created to interfere with his auctions and any feedback left will be automaticaly removed as well and the account of that member suspended.
A friend of mine did just that created an ID with totaly different contact info just for the purpose of messing with a guys auctions, Ebay suspended his fake account and tracked down his main selling account as well. He was a Power Seller and had over 15000 FB, made over 3000 a month on Ebay. All gone..
Breakin' the law, breakin' the law...
For the record, I'm not one of the bidders.
What are you, Gary's public advocate or something? Do you even know how many people he ripped, or attempted to rip off? Resealers ruin the hobby for everyone concerned.
In your example, the other guy must have known your friend was trying to mess with him. Ebay is far too lazy to take any action on anything unless the proof is presented directly to them, and even then they don't always act.

Buyers who do not meet the seller’s terms as outlined in the item listing are not permitted to bid on or buy the item. Furthermore, buyers are not permitted to place bids or purchase items with the primary intent of disrupting a listing.
Sellers are permitted to exclude bidders at any time prior to the listing close and are free to cancel unwelcome bids. After a seller has cancelled a bid, the bidder may not place a new bid without the seller's permission.
How do you know that a board member did not get into a bidding war with a victim? If so all you may have done is act as a shill for Gary which he probaly is thanking you for.
What about SCO?
All you do is put your account and other accounts as well at risk by being a vigilante.
If someone chooses to risk their own standing with ebay to save someone from being ripped off, I would consider that noble. You apparently would not.
And how do you know that the last 5 bidders in the auction weren't all board members?? Or maybe all legit bids?
Perhaps you know 1st hand who placed bids.
But you do make a good point. I think the real solution is to kill Gary. Or at least injure him to the point where cards are the last thing on his mind. Also, I've been drinking and sometimes I can get a little ornery.
Lee
I remember when he was exposed he made this big dramatic statement that he was going "to get out of the hobby for good" and that after the auctions he had up at that time completed he was done for good. Obviously, like everything else he claimed, that was a lie, too, and he's back ripping people off just like before.

I am just saying it is possible that if this did happen then they may have helped the scammer more than hurt him.
Think about this the bidding topped out at 1750.00 If someone was messing with the auction they probaly placed 10K bid on it or something like that, if 2 members were doing this then the bidding would have ended a lot higher as more than likely both would have bid extrememly high. What the final bid tells me is that it is highly possible that the second bidder WAS NOT a member of these boards and may end up getting scammed for alot more than he should because of the vigilante when Gary offers the SCO.

Don't believe that bidding it up and winning is a wrong but hope a board member won it.
If you have no intentions of paying it is. As I showed doing so might have actually been helpful not harmful to Gary and helped someone get scammed for more than they should. If 2 board members got into a bidding war this thing would have sold for way more. If someone is going to mess with an auction like that they are going to bid EXTREMELY high not a couple of hundred more than the usual price.
