Dead being a relative term, this is still the most active coin forum on the Internet.

Bullion prices are flat to down, most classic coins series prices also flat to down, what look to be lots of sock puppet Alt IDs running trying to make inane conversation to setup their plays to pump up their agendas and score some marks, many knowledgeable and interesting people no longer post or can no longer post.

These things go in cycles, if it seems dead, perhaps it is time to take a vacation from the forum and see if it is more interesting after a rest.

Thats part of it. Its a real turnoff to hear so much about such an undesiarable, artificially rare coin.

That and a lot of the posters either got kicked out or dont post anymore.

  • Speaking for myself, I'm busy at work, which is when I usually post, and therefore have little time to do so these days. That and all the pump and dump threads by the nubs are a big turn off.

I think Summer is the biggest culprit for the slow-down.

There does seem to be a few things missing we usually have going on at any given time though.

    1) Rash of new posters who ask a bunch of basic, but good questions. It doesn't bother me to see the same question a few times a year on clipped cents, poor man's double dies, what makes a coin DMPL vs PL, etc, etc. Yes, the experienced posters know how to use the search, but I actually like when new people come on and ask and actually get answers. There is usually one new piece of info, a reply worded a different way, or a good link given that wasn't in the last few ones. I'll take repeat educational posts any day.

    2) Multiple people spurring on the crowd - like Amanda used to do. There are great series of posts going on with commemorative and capped bust halves and others - we need more posts like this. Amanda use to just pick a topic and say "Teach me about xxxx" two days and 150 replies later, we had a great thread. I agree with one poster above, MANY of the responders to these threads have been banned - I can think of many names who you could count on for good, quality answers, that simply aren't here any more. But we still have many quality posters, we just need some sensible question askers.

    3) Word of the day (numismatic related) - These were usually cool and taught something.

    4) Guess the grade - with reasons. I learned so much from the majority of these, not just the MS ones. Replies that said, look at the feathers at the wing tips, you need fully seperated for XF45, this could be XF40 or whatever. I have all the grading books, I have a million pictures online to look at, but people's words were the most helpful for me. Again - we lost some quality graders, but there are still many around.

I don't remember last summer being as slow as this one though... who knows, we'll see in the fall image

because my photo skills suck ? image

I'm just guessing now. Don't mind me.
I'd be out chasing women but you guys would get even more mad when you find out your woman likes me more than she likes you ?

Um, what other reason ? Oh , I know,... Laura isn't here to fight and Russ knows I'm right ?

How about because everyone is studying the ANA voting ballot and trying to decide who should be on the board of governors ?

How about because VAM people are so secretive ?

Well, I better go work on my tan, now. Them girls are missing me !

When do we get the answer ? I gotta know. If I don't find out soon, I'll have to get meds.

It is the wave phenomena. Old timers leave after a number of years, as a wave.

The replacement of new folks also comes in a wave. It takes a little while for the new

folks to bond and make connections, with the rest of the Forum members. In time, all

will again be well as the Forum will again be rejuvenated, but in a slightly different direction.
