I just spoke to Sonia at PCGS.
The cut-off date to get the "First Strike" designation on the 2007-W ASE Uncs is 30 days from today...Sat. July 14th.
She said that the coins can be removed from the official sealed Mint carton and sent in loose.
Oh yeah, it's $10 additional per coin....please denote that on the submission form.
I hate to say it, but I'm going for it.....anyone else????

Does it require a minimum of 100 coins via Bulk submission to qualify?

It will never happen unless the Mint changes their wash process.
What exactly is the point for paying more money for a coin that without that plastic you can't tell from all the others?
Now if you want to collect plastic boxes that are different, fine.....

It only costs $10 extra if it is not bulk. Prices go down a bit if you submit under the bulk program.

The point is that, as a seller, people will pay more (proven). As a collector, I don't care about it, but when I sell, I have noticed it.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

An MS69 FS will cost you about $50, give or take a buck or two.
Will a FS MS69 realize more than $50 is the ultimate question.
As near as I can tell, (based on people having them shipped already), the Mint has a stock pile of these and it is my opinion that a FS MS69 may not be 'rare'.
On the other FS coins PCGS did, the Mint was slow on shipping, only the first batch had there coins in time. I don't think that will happen this time.
But, I've been wrong before....

Read what I posted above......as a collector, to ME, it means nothing. As a seller, I have found I get more $$$. Many people that collect are not "sophisticated" nor do they hang out here. This board is not life's blood for a vast majority of collectors.
It's perfectly fine NOT to have "1st strike".
As for comparing MS69 an the number of them......how much is the price difference between a 1st strike and a non-1st strike, both in MS69? I think that may answer your own question.
btw...I don't feel I am being criticized for getting 1st strike on mine when I did it last year. I still say "to each their own" and I don't feel I have to justify what I do to anyone. I will answer the question about it, if I feel like it, but I have no need to feel compelled to answer anyone questioning what I choose to do in a hobby I choose to participate in. Not like anyone on here pays my mortgage/allowance for me.
By the same token, aside from giving OT people hell here when they post OT things like so-called dollars,etc, I try not to question what others do with their coins/pictures/money/submissions.

good points all, i can certainly understand why sellers are willing to entertain the expenditure when they can make a profit. The whole reason that new collectors tend to gravitate to ultra high-grade moderns, is why i think that bubble will burst within a relatively short time. as new collectors enter the market, they only know the State Quaters and other bright, shiny new stuff. A good number of these will start to look into the various coin magazines and they will quickly see that the $800 they spent on a shiny brand new "rare" 20th Ann. ASE set could have purchased a true classic beauty. Also, they will probably become jaded with their "rare" new Mint issued stuff because of the US Mint's insistance to just keep churning out tons of commerative crap and other stuff every year; kinda' like the whole baseball card crash. personally, i'm not all that thrilled that the two major TPGs got on the bandwagon of the FS designation anyhow. it only continues to feed the misperception that their brand new modern stuff is "rare" and special, something they will quickly find out just isn't the case.
Not if you are a true modern and ultra modern collector. I know there are a lot classics I can buy for what I pay for ultramoderns but I have no desire too. The majority of classics don't interest me and zeroing on the modern market and saying it will collapse is wishful thinking. Any sector of a market is capable of collapse not just moderns. There is a large collector base for the ASE program and believe it or not some my want to own a 1995 W or a 2006 W reverse proof than a Carson City Morgan.
