Are you trying to tell me that when I opened my box of 5, I blew about $1,500?
Nah, You'll be alright........after all. you're alright now.........I think the stink about first strike, early issue graded stuff is for a group/league all on it's own. However, I do believe the raw set will continue to climb as that is where the majority of sets are. Also, watch the 2006 W UNC climb as well...........Rick
If don't look like UNC, it probrably isn't UNC.....U.S. Coast Guard. Chief Petty Officer (Retired) (1970-1990)
I have a 10-31 sealed box containing 2 sets. Aren't the Rev. Proof, and Proof still elegible for first strike? I think i'm going to sell it, and make note of it in the description/listing. I don't care about the label, but I think it would be an attention getter for some. And, I haven't seen many sealed boxes with FS coins lately. Am I wrong about the date??
Aren't people just buying the reverse proof in these opened sets? Why all the hype when two of the coins won't ever grade with the 20th anniversary label. I've seen several NGC 2006 PF70s go for around $70-$80. I've got two opened sets myself and am wondering when to pull the trigger.

Alot of people dont care about getting them graded. They want the coins in the OGP package. Though I do agree the reverse proof is driving the price of the set.
It's my belief that the 2006 w ASE coins will take a brief breather.... the price jump above $500 brought out a larger supply, and that is being absorbed. However, prices are not being affected very negatively.
Also, summer is here.... and some are taking a wait and see to see if the 2007 offerings may offer a better chance of price appreciation. However, I do not think the 2007 will be a very good year for that... and once the collectors realize that, the 2006 W will be off to the races again...

So I bought two sets... one has milkspots on the reverse proof Should I send these in to get slabbed when I do my next submission or keep them in original packaging? I plan to keep one set forever and sell the one with spots in a year or two (maybe). Am I right in that the ROI of slabbing is significantly over the slabbing cost? Will the spotting affect the grade?

Don't confuse the opened sets with the unopened sets.

Stopped in a new (for me) coin shop today to pick up some plastic flips. He didn't have much in the way of American Eagle's in any metal, so ask him about anniversary sets. He was pretty didinterested and said the last one he had about a month ago, he sold for $350. I'm going to be watching this shop a little closer.
Weaker prices this weekend. Opened sets seem to be going for $450-$480, and I can think of a few reasons why:
-Market correction -Flippers realize that now is the time to sell sell sell since the price has peaked -The notion that more and more opened sets could have been "rearranged" to contain less pristine pieces.

<< <i>The opened sets are leveling around $540.00 abd the 10 set sealed box isn't hitting $9000.00. Maybe they will stabilize. >>
Saw an opened ASE set closed today on the bay @ $651.00
Maybe we can see an upward movement still .
Seems to still got some kick left in it.

too many skinflints hover there looking to scrape away at any profit you'd make.

That sums it up pretty nicely I'd say.

The crazy thing is 1 year from now you may regret selling it for 8K.
I can't imagine that but I think these have a long way to go still.
I bought ten sets and sold 20 of the 30 coins early for a great profit. (3K over cost)
I still have (4) MS69 (1) PR70 and (5) RP69's (NGC).
I have been tempted to sell but I will hold on to these as long as I can.

the sealed boxes of 10 sets (I dislike the Apostle reference) will need to lead the way though...those spiked and are out of breath (temporarily)

Was the buyer aware of the milk spots? If so, perhaps people don't care as much about them as I imagined. >>
Oh yes, I make sure they know what they're getting. I even said "all sales final" and they still bid them up.
I think it's also possible that some collectors might not even know what milkspots are.
