I purchased GW's "unburnished" dollars a while back on Ebay.
The auction title said Unburnished. I asked him before purchasing if the coins where sintered and he said no they were unburnished. So in short being new at this and naive I purchased them.
After getting them back from PCGS they were marked sintered.
I have wrote several times to him about this a he has said that he will not refund.
Ebay
One of his replies was:
The ones I sent into PCGS to be graded also have been labeled as sintered. When I listed these coins , I choose to use the term unburnished / improperly prepared planchet. PCGS chooses the term sintered (which is also correct), because it refers to the cause of the discoloration. I choose the term unburnished because , after the annealing process, which is where a coin planchet can recieve a sintered coating error, the coin next moves onto the burnishing ,(polish or brightening), process, in which the coin is polished with small steel pellets. If a coin recieved this process it should have removed any of the sintered discoloration, but in the case of these, has not. This is why I listed them as unburnished(unpolished or unbrightened), because it more acurately describes the coin error. PCGS just uses the terminology sintered but the (unburnished) error was actually considered one in the same by there standards, when I inquired to them about it. I hope this was of help to you. Thanks for your previous business, and it was a pleasure to deal with you. Take care and have a great weekend!!
I tried to get my money back but he said to go pound salt!
Maybe I should pay the price for my ignorance

I do not see a darker color for it to be sintered.
As far as unburnished I showed it to everyone at the Long Beach show and they said there are only sintered.

The PCGS label appears to be is incorrect.
are Burnished first, then Annealed.

are Burnished first, then Annealed. >>
I came to see you Fred, at the show and yes you were right about it being sintered and now I'm stuck with an $80 sintered GW...
