    << <i>wayne,

    since the auction was only $50 below your reserve, i would have figured that you would have offered it to the high bidder considering the amount. $50 off of $30,000 isnt bad. >>

  • I tried, but ebay kept blocking me and I did not know his email address. Maybe there is a way, but i just kept getting blocked by ebay.

  • all I knew was that his username was "gamesyoucanuse". anothing I'd like to ask all of you. When you put an item on ebay and someone asks what is your reserve? Is is a good idea to give it to them. I've have to think that this person might have just bid $ 50.00 below my reserve since he knew it with no intention of buying the card. I checked his feedbacks and he has bought alot and had a 100% feedback rating. what do you think?

    a reserve is typically used to protect the card. i buy a ton of vintage cards and if there is a reserve, i first ask the seller how much is the reserve and i will bid only if he reveals it. the main point is so that the seller doesnt get stuck with selling the card too cheap, not making a game of it. if they dont reveal the reserve, there is zero chance i will bid. at that point, i figure he has a huge $ reserve and is just playing games. i am not interested in pumping up the price of someone's card when i dont have a chance of getting it.

    If you wanted $30000 for the card, why not list it at $30000 to start? Much like Cohocorp said reserves are just a game for the seller that want to see people pumping up the card price. That leads to buyers trying to turn the tables and going just under the reserve making the seller look greedy and dumb. If you would have take $29950 for the card why didn't you make the reserve $29950.

    Now you are stuck with the card, searching for a buyer and you just wasted two weeks.
  • Stuck-with a GAI 7 '52t Mantle? You wished you could be so STUCK. It's paid for, no big deal on my end, what's you problem?

    my words were taken out of context. if a potential buyer asks what the reserve is and the seller wont disclose it, at that point i would think the seller is playing games and i wouldnt be interested. using a reserve in and of itself is fine.

    what's you problem?

    if you mean what's your problem, i don't have any. i find this thread amusing as to the trials and tribulations of a person who bought a high price card a few weeks ago and now wants to flip it. one minute there is no way you are going to submit to PSA for fear that something is going to happen to it, than in another thread you write:

    Using a dealer to walk it through in the holder sounds like the way to go. I'll keep you posted on how it grades.

    of course if it doesn't meet your minimum PSA expectations (this card with which you readily admit has a defect in the GAI holder) will remain a GAI and it will be interesting to see if you won't be happy making a $5800 profit on it the next time if it doesn't come back in a PSA holder
  • THE Czar;
    you're nuts! you're sitting there with a Mantle BOWMAN PSA 1, and you constantly want to tell me how and what to do with MY card. As someone noted earlier, you're just jealous that you don't have the problem of being STUCK with a GAI 7. What the hell does it matter to you WHAT I do? My card is PAID for, I'm NOT stuck with it. I love the card but I'll take a profit if and when one comes along. I have a PSA 4 on ebay right now. I enjoy buying and selling cards even though I have nice collection that I started back in 1981. Please find someone else to offer your opinions to. I'm sick of hearing from you and your negative comments. Comments and opinions are welcome but I'm sick of being lectured by the great Czar! Go snuggle up to you Bowman 1 and leave me alone.
    I'm sending you a picture or 2 of my collection. Then YOU decide if I'm a lover of my cards or not, I've had them for over 20 years!
