origin/reason for King George III 'bull head' bust?

I mentioned below that i'm bidding on a 'bull head' HC in the Long Beach auction (thread below), and that made me wonder something.

I would imagine that rulers have complete control over how their bust/pictures/coins look with them on it. What i mean to say, is that they would have a vested interest in portraying a certain 'look' or 'image' to their country. Any idea why the King opted to have the weird-ish 'bull head' bust on the obverse of some of his later coins? was this some sort of tough guy posturing or something? any ideas?

    The Bull Head was designed by Beneditto Pistrucci, perhaps the greatest engraver of his age. Pistrucci seems to have had a thing for making his subject as ugly as he could.

    Exactimundo. Neoclassicism was hot then. Look at Pistrucci's St. George, riding bareback (and barebutt). Doesn't exactly look English, does he? Very Greek.
