I really hate USPS delivery tracking.

lsicalsica Posts: 1,621 ✭✭✭✭
Sometimes it's pretty much useless.

I sent 3 items out with Delivery Confirmation this weekend. I have the confirmation emails and the actual printed receipt that appears as part of the PayPal label.

All 3 show up on the USPS web site with "There is no record for this item"

I know for sure at least one of the items arrived at its destination yesterday, even though the PO web site says it never existed.

Per my local postal servant: Electronic tracking on the USPS website is only updated when the coin leave its final post office on its way to the person receiving it.
Basically delivery confirmation is only good to the seller after the fact. Don't make the mistake of mailing your buyer the tracking number, they will drive you crazy cause it's not showing any progress on the website. For the buyer it's really just confirmation, after the fact, that the parcel got as far as the final post office. Even that has bailed me out with customers too cheap to buy the insurance.

Unlike the UPS and FedEx systems, which are tracking systems, the PO systems is just what it say "delivery confirmation". That is when the info is eventually updatedimage

If you use the multi order shipping tool in PayPal, when you get ready to print your labels you will now see a button for a scan form, print it out, when you give the packages to your carrier or take it to the post office have them scan the form then have them post mark the form. This will put your items into the system as being accepted by the post office. This is as good as proof of mailing without the cost. If you take it to the clerk at the post office and it will not scan in on their registers ask them to use a hand scanner ( these seem to work better). This also helps you in a PayPal dispute to prove you did mail the package.

The BIG problem is that I get a "There is no record for this item" message, as if the label itself was never generated.

This is different than the usual "Electronic Info submitted for this item" which means the PO recognizes the label was at least generated.

Just received an email from PayPal

<< <i>We are aware of this issue where the Post Office is not recognizing the
tracking information that was generated and I sincerely regret the
inconvenience it has caused you. Our technicians are working to resolve
this matter. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We have record
of the label in PayPal and the label is associated with the item.

Just hope this doesn't mean the PO is going to send the package back to me when they scan it and it doesnt come up on their computers

    No, they deliver them.
  • I have had 5 packages in the last 2 days that have NO Signature Confirmation available, yet I was charged!

What about a REFUND, Post Office??!!

Anyone try to get one, yet?

If you purchase signature confirmation online, it isn't going to show up online when you track it. You'll still get your signature though.

You have very helpful people at your local post office. Under absolutely no circumstances will the elves at my local p.o. scan a clip-n-ship label.

That's interesting -- it sounds like this is a Paypal issue more than a USPS issue. This is good to know while I'm biting my nails and waiting for positive feedback in lieu of a delivery confirmation...

2 of the 3 now show up in USPS delivery tracking. With a little luck the third one should show up tomorrow. I'm suspecting that once the PO actually scans the package, it shows up in their tracking, even though they never received the original notification of PayPal creating the label.
