How did this thing get into a MS65 NGC slab?

IS it me or is there a ton of wear on this coin. How can it be graded so high?

    Just because it has thick, ugly, toning does not mean that it will affect the grade. The devices,especially the sails, look pretty clean to me. I can see it grading MS65 anyday.

    I know that the toning doesnt affect the grade, even this ugly toning, but some of the letters seem to have some wear. IT must just be that the toning is taking away from the letters.

    All UNC. Long Island Commemoratives look that way. The details are just not that sharp.

    I don't see any wear but if the pics are accurate that is one butt fugly coin.

    if you look around the area on the slab where it has the grade it's been cut and pasted......................big time

    You mean this 9 year ebay seller is gonna send you a lower grade MS slabbed after you paid for a 65? I don't think I buy that. A lot of trouble to go through. If you're going to shaft someone just don't send them the coin....or send an empty package.

    I agree with the others - bad flat bed scanner image....
