Weighing selling Complete PR69/70 Modern Commem Proof Set for Full Platinum PR/MS Set... Thoughts?

I have been contemplating this for some time... once the 2006-w's came it it pretty much sealed the deal for me (or at least i think it did!)
just wondering what you all thought about selling this set (which is currently #2 in the Registry) to help fund the purchase of a full platinum set.... smart move? bad move?
and if i did, any advice on how best to sell them? as a set or individually?

I guess it all depends if you like platinum bullion instead of silver or gold commemoratives. Keep in mind, you have a much smaller collector base in Platinum than you do with the commemoratives. Are you doing it for investment purposes? If so...go for it.

yeah i guess the play is for investment... but i really do like the commens... although it is nice that the plats have different reverses though... which gives it a commemorative like feature... so it's all good.... so i have been thinking the plats are the way to go... would just need to figure the best way to sell the commems if I really pull the trigger.

Several years back, I had the # 9 ranked set....sold it all...one slab at a time on eBay...takes times, but I made a good profit.

so that's not a bad idea either then... sell the Proof Silvers and the Proof Golds maybe as a Group? or maybe even sub Groups? Still wondering how best to list... BINs or Low Auctions?

I don't know the answers to those questions, but I would bet that the commems will have broader appeal and tell a more diverse set of stories than the plats can. The series goes back sixteen years earlier. Your series even covers different alloys. On the other hand, the plats offer only one symbolic design -- on the reverse only -- per year. Due to increasing platinum prices, mintages have steadily declined; the expected new anny set is down to half-ounce pieces. If the series survives, it may simply sell to a very specialized audience.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy some of the plats and would love to have a complete set of the first five-year series. However, I am not really looking forward to this next issue -- I think the design is cartoonish at best, and that there is no semblance of continuity in this so-called three-year "series" -- and I will only buy to see what they look like in hand... to and to make money by flipping them.
Collect what you want, but if you're looking to make money, at least wait to see how this anniversary set performs before you sell off the second-best commem set in existance. Certainly you can buy the 07s at issue price, as well as many of the other plat issues at near melt, for the time being.

The 10th Anniversary Set might make you enough money on a flip. Play your cards right and you might not have to sell your commems to acquire what you want! If you going to sell the commems, they are best if sold as singles and not as groups. People on eBay tend to discount coins sold as groups...

When selling on eBay...the most useful tool is: previous sales of the same TPG graded coin. Study the sales for a while..it gives you a ball park idea. None of my sales had BIN's. I started all silver commems at $.99 & the gold at either $9.99 or $99.95. Needless to say, every item put up for auction sold. Good luck & have fun doing it. I sure did.
