(Poll)Where do you Fall?
Where do you fall in the spectrum of the coin world?
For instance, I am a collector/buyer. I am not a dealer and I don't sell coins as a rule (I have sold a grand total of one individual coin and one bullion set) and I don't base my buying decisions on the thought of "can I flip this at some point for a profit?"
In other words coins are pure hobby for me.
What say ye?

I would say that I am a "collector", but I dabble around with coins like a "part time dealer"

<< <i>...and I don't base my buying decisions on the thought of "can I flip this at some point for a profit?" >>
I'm with the majority - a collector who occasionally sells or trades to improve my collection. I do base my buying decisions on whether or not I think I'm getting good long-term value for my money. This may seem to contradict the quote above, but I don't worry about selling the coins in my collection to turn a profit.

Question answer is, a little bit of everything.

Glad to see the collector base..
<<Collector - I buy coins for my collection and only sell in order to improve my collection.>>
Purist collector: Buy only what I like without respect to price.
Will never sell anything. And when I die, you'll have to pry them loose from my cold clenched fists.

This all began as a hobby for me...with some consideration for investment potential...
I got VERY carried away and before I knew it had amassed way more coins than I wanted or needed. After some trial and error ( and tribulation) ... I took the advice of a dealer friend... I got some lights and some cases and now I do local shows...
I am selling off my "extras" without losing my shirt and have a 'new' access to the coins I like...I still have a personal collection of Buffalos and a 7070...
...I enjoy doing the shows and meeting other folks who share my passion for coins...
...and my 'stock' has become my rotating collection...I ain't gettin' rich...just making enough to keep things moving along...I have a full-time career outside of coins...
it is still a fun hobby for me (although it does take away some of my time on the golf course) and the moment it stops being fun I'll find another way to spend my time (and money)...
just happened to get stuck on coins.......lol
